Registered Nurse (RN) – 10E Stepdown Unit

Location: Morgantown, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Overview

• 29-bed Stepdown/MedSurg unit currently under construction; opening expected Q1 2026
• Flex unit serving both floor and step-down patients based on hospital needs
• Diverse patient population with primarily medical diagnoses
• Nurse-to-patient ratios:

  • Stepdown: 3:1
  • Med-Surg floor: 6:1
• Nurse aids (Clinical Associates) present with a goal ratio of 1:10 (3 CAs per shift)
• Remote telemetry surveillance center with central monitoring; RNs are not required to read telemetry strips
• Respiratory equipment includes CPAP, BiPAP on floor and stepdown; HiFlow and vents in stepdown (vent settings adjusted by ICU)

Work Schedule & Environment

• 12-hour day shifts (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
• Approximately 36 hours per week
• Block scheduling is attempted but not guaranteed
• Weekend shifts required (agency RN positions posted as weekend positions)
• Expect to work about half of recognized holidays
• No call or standby requirements
• Floating to other floor or stepdown units is expected
• Dress code: royal blue and white scrubs

Required Qualifications & Skills

• Current RN license required
• BLS (AHA) certification required
• Must have EPIC electronic health record experience
• Ability to manage:

  • 6 patients on med-surg floor
  • 3 patients on stepdown unit
• Experience with titrating drips including: heparin, insulin, antihypertensives, antiarrhythmics, phenobarbital, ketamine, PCA opioids (morphine, dilaudid, fentanyl), and TPN
• Open to both new and experienced nurses

Additional Information

• Charge nurses and house supervisors available 24/7; charge nurses may take patient assignments initially but goal is to have a free charge RN
• Orientation specific to unit and shift provided

This position is suitable for nurses comfortable working in a fast-paced, diverse medical stepdown environment with strong clinical skills and EPIC proficiency.
