Registered Nurse (RN) – 7W Stepdown Unit

Location: Morgantown, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Overview

• Unit: 7 WEST (Stepdown & Floor)
• Total Beds: 32 (12 Stepdown, 20 Floor)
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:

  • Stepdown: 1:3
  • Floor: 1:4 to 1:6
• Patient Population: Typical MedSurg cases including Chest Pain, COPD, Altered Mental Status, Pneumonia, UTI, Abdominal Pain, hospice patients (GIP Hospice on 7 West)
• Telemetry: Yes, with telemetry monitor techs; RNs must be able to read cardiac strips
• Drips: Stepdown requires titration of drips; Floor manages PCAs, heparin, etc.
• Respiratory Therapy Equipment: Managed by RTs (vents, CPAP, BiPAP)
• Charge Nurse: One charge nurse per unit budgeted; House Supervisor always available
• Nurse Aides: Typically 4 aides if fully staffed for 32 beds
• Floating: May be required to float to any floor or stepdown unit

Work Schedule

• Shifts: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM (Days) and 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM (Nights)
• Hours per Day: 12
• Hours per Week: 36
• Weekend Requirement: 2 weekends per schedule
• Holiday Requirement: Work integrated into permanent staff holiday schedule

Required Certifications & Licenses

• BLS Certification required
• Must hold an active RN license valid in West Virginia

Additional Requirements & Notes

• COVID-19 Vaccine Required: Fully vaccinated means 2 doses of Moderna or Pfizer, or 1 dose of J&J

  • Medical or religious exemptions require submission of an exemption form for approval
• Driver’s license address must be outside a 50-mile radius from the facility
• Previous permanent candidates must have been off the unit for at least 2 years before reapplying
• Previous travelers must have been off the unit for 2 years after completing a full year on the unit
• Submission rules limit candidates to one position at a time within the system and a maximum of two candidates per opening
• Scrub Color/Dress Code: Royal Blue
