Registered Nurse - PCU Float (Travel/Contract)
Location: Wichita Falls, Texas
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Support primarily Medical-Surgical units with floating duties.
- Work schedule: alternating 36/48 hour shifts every other day, with a 72-hour guarantee. Facility may consider straight 48-hour shifts but still with 72-hour guarantee.
- Shift options: Day shifts, either 3 or 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM - 7:00 PM).
- Weekend work required, potentially most weekends during the contract. Block scheduling may be accommodated but set schedules cannot be guaranteed.
- Preferred start date within 3-5 weeks from hire.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU), with at least some PCU experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Prior travel nursing experience.
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
- Background check within 1 year, including SS trace, county searches for last 7 years, nationwide, and sex offender registry.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start.
- NURSYS verification within 30 days of start.
- State nursing license verification within 30 days of start.
- Competency exams as applicable (medication/pharmacology and general competency).
- Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgment (annual update).
- Facility-specific documents and acknowledgments prior to start (e.g., parking policy, confidentiality, code of conduct, information security, orientation).
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start; must be completed within 72 hours of contract signing.
- Immunizations/vaccinations required (must be completed within 72 hours of contract signing):
- TDAP (within 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (2-step PPD, Q Gold, or TSpot within 1 year; chest X-ray within 5 years if positive PPD)
- Rubeola (Measles): 2 vaccines or positive titer (exempt if born before 1957)
- Mumps: 2 vaccines or positive titer (exempt if born before 1957)
- Rubella: 2 vaccines or positive titer (exempt if born before 1957)
- Hepatitis B: positive titer, series of 3, or declination
- Varicella: 2 vaccines, positive titer, or history of chickenpox
- Seasonal flu vaccine (required October 1 - May 31; medical/religious exemptions subject to review)
- COVID-19 vaccination documentation required
- Drug testing: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 1 year; must have plan to complete within facility timeframe (within 72 hours of contract signing).
Additional Requirements
- Two professional references within 3 years of start date.
- Resume or employment application required.
- Annual skills checklist update required.
Notes
- Must be agreeable to floating and flexible scheduling.
- Block scheduling may be accommodated but fixed schedules are not guaranteed.
- Weekend work is expected and may be frequent.
