Registered Nurse – MICU (Columbus, Ohio)
Employment Type: Travel/Contract

Shift: Night (3 shifts of 12 hours each, 19:00–7:30)

Job Description
- Unit: Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU)
- Shift Options: 12-hour day/night rotating shifts possible; schedule reviewed every 4 weeks but subject to staffing needs
- Patient Population: Adults and Geriatrics
- Common Patient Diagnoses:
- Oncologic emergencies
- Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
- Pneumonia
- Adult Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS)
- Gastrointestinal bleeding
- Neuromuscular diseases
- Drug overdose
- Pulmonary hypertension
- Autoimmune disorders
- Sepsis
- Special Procedures and Treatments:
- Mechanical ventilation
- Pulmonary artery catheter placement
- Continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT)
- Arterial pressure and cardiac monitoring
- Chest tubes and central venous catheters
- Chemotherapy administration
- Complex medication regimens
- Clinical trials participation
- Plasmapheresis
- Bronchoscopy and endoscopy for pulmonary and GI conditions
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
- Minimum 1 year of recent experience in Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU)
- Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Current ACLS certification
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific code 3701.881)
- Education verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug test within 3 months of start
- References: Two professional references required; at least one from a manager or formal leadership
- Employment application and skills checklist required
- Annual compliance requirements:
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgment
- Fraud, waste, and abuse training certificate
- Ethics and compliance policies acknowledgment
- Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) valid within 1 year of assignment end date; onsite fit testing available if needed
- Immunizations and titers:
- Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year (or TB questionnaire annually)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titers)
- Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemptions require documentation)
- Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1–3/31) with mask requirement if declined
- COVID-19 vaccination: Not required but strongly recommended
Additional Information
- Parking options available for agency staff (costs and availability subject to change)
- Unit-specific competency exams required, including Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam updated annually
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam required prior to start
- Shift assignments and scheduling are subject to change based on staffing priorities every 4 weeks
This position is ideal for experienced critical care RNs with prior travel contract experience seeking a challenging role in a high-acuity MICU setting.
