Registered Nurse (RN) – Progressive Care Unit (PCU) (Nights)

Location: Des Moines, Iowa

Unit & Patient Care Information

• Unit size: 25 beds
• Patient types: heavy neuro trauma, neurosurgery, craniectomy, orthopedic
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5 to 1:6
• Drips administered: Heparin, PCA, 3% Sodium (no titration)
• Specialty equipment: telemetry, left equipment, chest tubes, Airvo
• Scrubs color: Navy Blue
• Float requirement: Must float across multiple campuses within the system
• EMR system: EPIC

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Iowa
• Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, including experience within the last year
• Completed at least one travel assignment
• BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• ACLS certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Valid driver’s license
• Experience with 3% Sodium/Na drip
• Medical-Surgical nursing experience
• Neurology and neurosurgery nursing experience
• Orthopedic nursing experience
• Experience with EPIC electronic medical records system

Experience & Travel Requirements

• Must have completed at least one travel assignment within the past 12 months (no first-time travelers)

Work Conditions & Scheduling

• Night shift
• Required to work 1-2 of 3 upcoming summer holidays (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day) unless the unit is closed
• Orientation: 16 hours
• Typical hours: 36-40 hours/week; overtime billable after 40 hours
• Call back and on-call pay available (details not included here)

• Employee separation policy restricts travel assignments within this system if previously employed as full-time or PRN within the last 12 months
• Local radius rule: candidates should be within 50 miles of the facility

This position is ideal for experienced progressive care nurses with strong neuro, ortho, and trauma skills who have recent travel nursing experience and are comfortable working nights and holidays in a specialized telemetry environment.
