ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Hazleton, Pennsylvania
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse for a Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) with adult patient population. Patient ratios range from 1:1 to 3:1. Floating to other units is required.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Pennsylvania
- Minimum 2 years of Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) experience, with at least some experience within the last year
- ACLS certification
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NIHSS certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Job Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care in a Surgical ICU setting.
- Manage patient care with ratios ranging from 1:1 to 3:1.
- Charting/documentation using EPIC electronic health record system.
- Floating to other units as needed.
- Work every other weekend.
Background and Compliance Requirements
- Comprehensive background checks covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years, including:
- SSN Trace, Counties, States, Nationwide Criminal Search, Sex Offender Search, DMV (if applicable), Education Verification, PA PATCH (state police search).
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required upon hire.
- Pennsylvania Department of Human Services fingerprint clearance required within 90 days of start (all pages must be submitted).
- Pennsylvania Child Abuse Search required within 90 days of start.
- Pennsylvania PATCH and Medicheck searches required within 30 days of start.
Health and Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 2 months of start.
- Fit test questionnaire and fit mask test required prior to start.
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (QGold or T-Spot within 90 days, or 2 PPDs with one within 90 days)
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella – positive titer or vaccination series required
- Hepatitis B – positive antibody titer or completed vaccine series (declinations not accepted)
- Varicella – positive titer or vaccination series required
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required.
- COVID-19 vaccination required or signed declination with facility-specific form.
- Drug testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start (9-panel without THC also accepted). Dilute results require observed retest within 24 hours if allowed by state.
- Respirator medical clearance required annually for respirator use starting 04/07/2025.
Competency and Testing Requirements
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam within 12 months of start (minimum 80% passing score).
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam within 12 months of start (minimum 88% passing score).
- Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) required for all RNs except those in Behavioral Health, OR, remote Telephone Triage, Transitional Skilled Unit, and outpatient Infusion positions.
- Signed acknowledgment of Orientation Safety Manual and Pass/Fail Testing required.
Documentation and Verification
- Minimum of 2 professional references from employment within 12 months of start.
- Complete employment application including 7 years of work history with explanations for gaps over 90 days.
- Education and license/certification verification required prior to start.
Additional Notes
- Photo for badge required for new candidates starting 3/31/2025 and onward (recent, color, forward-facing, no hats/masks).
- Badge request form required for new candidates starting before 3/30/2025.
- Every other weekend work required.
- Floating to other units required.
This position is ideal for experienced ICU Registered Nurses with surgical ICU background seeking a 13-week travel contract on night shift in Pennsylvania.
