Description

Job Opportunity: RRT-NICU (Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics)

Location: New Brunswick, New Jersey
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM), 3 shifts per week (36 hours/week)
Schedule: Every Other Weekend (EOW)
On-Call: None


Job Description

  • Work in a Level IV NICU setting; Level III NICU experience accepted.
  • Must have recent and proficient acute care Level III NICU experience.
  • Experience required with oscillators, jet ventilators, and nitric oxide (ECMO experience not required).
  • Responsibilities include attending high-risk deliveries and C-sections.
  • Travelers with additional jobs must prioritize this contract as their primary work schedule.
  • No travel pairs allowed.
  • Holiday scheduling requires working one evening and one day shift during Christmas and New Year’s Eve if those holidays fall within the contract.
  • Requests for Return to Origin (RTO) must be approved by the facility.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Respiratory Therapist license in New Jersey
  • Minimum 2 years of Respiratory Therapist experience, including Pediatric Respiratory Therapist experience
  • Respiratory Therapist experience within the last year
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
  • Experience in an acute care setting
  • Experience with nitric oxide

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Criminal background check covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years, including aliases and jurisdictions. International background checks required if applicable.
  • Background checks, SAM, and OIG searches must be completed within 30 days of assignment start.
  • Physical exam or fit-to-work statement from a physician required (no annual update needed).
  • Immunizations and health screenings required:
    • Tdap vaccine
    • Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or T-spot within 3 months) or chest X-ray if indicated
    • MMR (2 vaccines or positive titer for measles, mumps, rubella)
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
    • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
    • Hepatitis C (negative or non-reactive titer)
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (annual requirement)
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within one year of start; marijuana testing not required. On-site drug screen at assignment start.
  • Three professional references required, including at least one supervisor-level reference.
  • Employment application must demonstrate a minimum of 2 years acute care experience.
  • Work history verification required for at least 1 year prior to start date with no gaps over 30 days (New Jersey candidates).
  • Skills checklist required.

Orientation and Training

  • Mandatory hospital orientation and completion of assigned online modules (~8 hours) prior to start.
  • Additional 8-12 hours of McKesson training during orientation.
  • Candidates must complete all compliance modules by document deadline or risk cancellation.
  • Photo for badge required: shoulders-up photo with plain solid background (not a driver’s license or another photo).

Testing and Competency Exams

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required (internal standard).
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for all RRTs (2 attempts allowed).
  • IV Therapy certification required if previously worked in New Jersey hospitals; proof must be provided or candidate must complete facility IV modules and pass related exams.
  • Pass/fail medication exam required 30 minutes before orientation start; failure results in cancellation.

Additional Notes

  • First-time travelers are accepted for this assignment.
  • Scrub color: Ceil Blue.
  • No on-call duties.
  • Must be able to work every other weekend as scheduled.
