Registered Nurse (RN) – IMC Stepdown Unit

Location: Weirton, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour shifts, rotating day and night
Hours per Week: 36 hours

Unit Overview

• Stepdown/Progressive Care Unit with 30 beds
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4-6 depending on patient acuity
• Common patient types: cardiac patients, post-pneumonia, post-cardiac cath lab, seizures, alcohol withdrawal (CIWA protocols), pacemakers, and more

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of Stepdown/Progressive Care Unit (PCU) nursing experience
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications
• Must be comfortable with cardiac monitoring and managing cardiac drips
• Ability to titrate drips such as cardizem, amiodarone, nitroglycerin, heparin, dopamine, dobutamine, and angiomax
• Valid, unexpired driver’s license (must be submitted with application)
• Disclosure of any licensing issues at time of submission

Job Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care including ADLs, vital signs, bathing, toileting, feeding, repositioning, answering call lights, and blood sugar monitoring
• Read, interpret, and print telemetry strips; identify cardiac rhythms
• Troubleshoot respiratory equipment as needed (ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, high flow, tracheostomies) alongside respiratory therapists
• Float to any inpatient unit as needed; travelers are prioritized for floating

Support and Resources

• Charge nurse present each shift; day shift charge nurse typically does not take patient assignment unless necessary, night shift charge nurse takes a lighter assignment
• Nurse aides/patient care technicians available to assist with basic care duties
• Respiratory therapists available 24/7 and assigned to the unit
• Monitor/Telemetry technicians available 24/7

Scheduling and Work Environment

• 4-week scheduling blocks with staff input on ideal schedules before finalization
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend (EOW)
• Holiday rotation participation may be required
• No call or standby requirements
• Dress code: Navy blue scrubs
• Orientation: 2 days general orientation plus 1 day preceptor shadowing specific to the unit
• 12-hour shifts with day/night rotation

Additional Notes

• Must comply with a 50-mile radius rule for candidate submissions
• Hospitalist available as primary attending; on-call at night with no nocturnist coverage for the entire hospital
