Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Spokane, Washington
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 36
Job Description
- Position floats between units.
- Some weekend shifts required.
- No on-call or block schedules required.
- Patient ratios: Labor 1:2, Antepartum 1:3.
- Special requirements include managing acute care high-risk labor and delivery cases such as:
- Antepartum complications
- Pre-eclampsia
- Diabetes
- Multiples pregnancies
- VBAC/TOLAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean/Trial of Labor After Cesarean)
- Active management of laboring patients
- Induction and augmentation of labor
- Maternal emergencies
- 48-hour shifts are not approved.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Washington state.
- Minimum of 1 year of Labor and Delivery nursing experience, with experience within the last year.
- Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification.
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Experience
- Specialty: Registered Nurse in Labor and Delivery.
- Required years of experience: Not explicitly stated; assume minimum 1 year in specialty or higher as per clinical track.
- Prior travel experience: Not required.
Background and Compliance Requirements
- Background check within 90 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years; must be updated annually.
- Education verification required for nursing degree; international education requires additional documentation.
- Drug screening: 9-panel drug screen within 12 months of start.
- Minimum of 2 professional references covering at least 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty/setting within the last 3 years.
- Employment application covering at least the last 5 years of employment.
- NURSYS license verification required.
- State-specific searches and registry checks as required by Washington state law.
Health and Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO, confirming ability to work with or without accommodation.
- Fit mask test (respirator clearance) required for travel nurses, updated annually.
- Immunizations and documentation required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years or declination accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season
- COVID-19 vaccination documentation preferred (declinations accepted)
- Respiratory safety clearance required annually for travel nurses.
Training and Onboarding
- Completion of annual regulatory and specialty-specific training modules via LMS (Workramp).
- EPIC system training and transcript submission required prior to or shortly after orientation.
- Floating policy acknowledgment required; may be asked to float to other nearby facilities.
Additional Notes
- Passport-style photo required for badge issuance.
- Some state-specific forms and attestations may be required for multi-state licensed nurses.
- Candidates with international education must provide additional verification such as CES report.
- Candidates must comply with all facility and state-specific background and health screening requirements.
This position offers an opportunity to work in a high-acuity Labor and Delivery setting with a focus on complex maternal care in a travel nurse capacity.
