Registered Nurse - MS/Telemetry (Day Shift) - Belleville, Illinois

  • Hours per Week: 36 hours (3 x 12-hour shifts)

Job Description

  • Specialize in surgical patients following the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) program protocols.
  • Floating within scope to other MS/Telemetry floors and nearby facilities may be required.
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend, totaling 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week period.
  • On-call duty is required.
  • Block scheduling is not accommodated.
  • Local candidates accepted within a 75-mile radius.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois.
  • Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical / Telemetry nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued ID required.
  • Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches.
  • Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks.
  • Illinois fingerprinting required for assignments involving long-term care or rehab units.
  • Education verification of highest nursing degree required.
  • Professional license primary source verification required.
  • NURSYS verification required for RN licenses.
  • Drug testing within 1 year, including a comprehensive panel, must be current throughout assignment.
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start.
  • Fit mask testing (N95) required and must be renewed annually.
  • Immunizations and health screenings required:
    • Tdap vaccine or declination (expires every 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray per protocol
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as applicable
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season (Sept-April)
  • Annual HIPAA acknowledgement, confidentiality form, latex allergy questionnaire, hand hygiene, fingernail, and dress code policy acknowledgements.
  • Completion of facility-specific orientation modules (~16 hours) through online training platform.
  • Unit-specific competency exams and medication/pharmacology competency testing required annually.
  • Color blindness testing required.
  • References: Two professional references required, preferably supervisors within the last year.
  • Employment application and unit-specific skills checklist required within 1 year of start.

Additional Notes

  • No more than 7 days off between shifts allowed (RTO restrictions).
  • Candidates must adhere to facility policies including dress code and fingernail standards.
  • Candidates must have a recent badge photo (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions).
  • Oncology competency exam required if assigned to Med Surg-Oncology unit.
  • MAB or CPI certification may be required depending on unit.
  • Some units may require additional certifications such as ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM—verify based on unit assignment.
  • Candidates must be prepared to comply with all facility-specific health and safety protocols.

This position offers a challenging opportunity to work in a specialized surgical telemetry unit with a focus on enhanced recovery protocols in a Magnet-designated acute care hospital.
