Job Opportunity: Emergency Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Lansing, Michigan
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per 4-week schedule (3x12 hours, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours


Job Description

  • Work in a Level 1 Trauma Center with Stroke and Heart Center designations, including a Pediatric Emergency Department.
  • Floating to Pediatrics may be required.
  • Weekend requirement: Work 3 weekends (Friday-Sunday) per 4-week schedule; may be scheduled for 1 to all 3 weekend days.
  • No on-call duties.
  • High patient-to-nurse ratios expected (typically 1:5-6, potentially up to 1:8 during busy times or holidays).
  • EPIC electronic charting system experience required.
  • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias expected.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Michigan.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year.
  • Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients.
  • Certifications:
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association
    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) issued by the American Heart Association
    • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
    • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Experience with EPIC electronic charting system.
  • Proficient in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias.

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Valid Driver’s License/State ID and Social Security Card required.
  • Background checks including:
    • 7-year multi-county/state criminal history
    • Social Security Number Trace
    • National Sex Offender Database Search
    • FACIS Level 3 Search
    • Education verification (highest level required)
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start, noting latex sensitivity.
  • Immunizations and health screenings:
    • Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination
    • Negative 2-step TB test or chest X-ray if positive
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) immunity via vaccines or titers
    • Hepatitis B immunity or vaccination series or declination
    • Varicella immunity via vaccines or titers
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination (required for start dates during flu season)
  • Drug screening: 10-panel drug test including THC within 30 days of start (no medical marijuana cards or dilute screens accepted).
  • N95 Fit Mask test within 12 months of start, updated annually.
  • Facility-specific documents and competency exams to be completed onsite or prior to start as required.

Additional Information

  • Unit accepts first-time travel nurses.
  • Modules related to orientation and unit-specific training are not billable and require approximately 5 hours of candidate time.
  • Candidates must be prepared for high acuity and patient volume.
  • Two professional references from previous employers required.
  • Resume with 7-year work history and skills checklist required.

Summary

This is a travel Registered Nurse position in an Emergency Room setting requiring strong trauma experience, multiple advanced certifications, and the ability to work high patient ratios including weekends. The role involves day shifts with some floating to pediatrics and requires compliance with extensive documentation and health requirements. First-time travelers are welcome.
