Registered Nurse – OB/GYN (Travel/Contract)

Location: Ketchikan, Alaska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day shift, 5x8 hours (8:00 AM – 4:30 PM)
Hours per Week: 40


Job Description

  • Provide professional nursing care in a clinic/outpatient OB/GYN setting.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care needs including:
    • Assessing patient condition and triaging phone calls
    • Counseling and educating patients
    • Taking patient histories
    • Administering prescribed medications
    • Changing dressings and cleaning wounds
    • Monitoring vital signs
  • Document patient care in the healthcare record.
  • Promote a collaborative, interdisciplinary approach with patients, families, and care team members.

Required Qualifications

  • License: Valid Alaska Registered Nurse (RN) license (pending licenses accepted).
  • Experience: Minimum 1 year of OB/GYN clinic experience.
  • Certifications:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS)
    • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • Additional Preferred Certifications: AWHONN (Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced)

Candidate Requirements

  • First-time travelers not accepted.
  • Local candidates not accepted.
  • Must sign Social Security verification release.
  • Two positive professional references required.

Compliance and Onboarding Requirements

  • Background checks including:
    • 7-year search with SSN trace, counties/states lived/worked, federal and national criminal checks.
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks before start and every 45 days thereafter.
    • Social Security verification (can start pending if I-9 and eVerify are on file).
  • Education verification required; transcripts or diploma accepted if school cannot be verified.
  • Fingerprinting: Two FBI FD258 fingerprint cards required; traveler responsible for sending cards to Alaska DHSS and facility.
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start required.
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start, updated annually, required for onsite workers.
  • Drug testing within 30 days of start, including specific panels (amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, methadone, opiates, oxycodone, PCP, marijuana for AK candidates).
  • Immunizations or documented immunity required for:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (or declination)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) or declination
    • Varicella or declination
    • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or approved declination/exemption during flu season (Nov 1 – Mar 31)
  • TB screening: Negative IGRA or 2 PPDs within 1 year or negative chest x-ray if positive TB history; annual TB questionnaire required.
  • Respiratory safety clearance required for onsite candidates, updated annually.

Orientation and Training

  • Must complete a mandatory orientation manual review and pass an orientation quiz with 100% score prior to start.
  • Must complete facility-specific orientation modules for Registered Nurses.
  • Review and acknowledge facility policies including:
    • Dress code
    • Workplace violence prevention plan
    • Personnel restrictions due to illness
    • Masking policy (N95 fit testing and facial hair policy)
  • Must complete facility-specific forms such as demographic form, criminal disclosure statement, and confirmation of standards checklist.
  • Passport-style photo required for badge.
  • ID badge and parking forms must be completed prior to start.

  • Onsite N95 fit testing may be accommodated on a case-by-case basis.
  • Candidates must complete required forms and submit documentation promptly to avoid delays.
