Respiratory Therapist - West Virginia (Princeton)
Job Details
- Location: Princeton, West Virginia
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: Nights (18:45 - 07:15)
- Hours: 12 hours per shift, approximately 36 hours per week
- Schedule: Set schedules made 4 weeks in advance; every other weekend required (weekend-only shifts may be considered)
- Holiday Requirement: Work on Christmas and New Year's if scheduled
- Call: No call or standby required
- Floating: Within the facility only
Patient Population & Work Environment
- Primarily adult patients, with some pediatric inpatient and family birthing unit (no C-sections)
- Work covers all inpatient areas, Emergency Department, inpatient and outpatient EKGs, and outpatient bronchoscopies in a procedural setting
- No coverage required for Sleep Lab, Pulmonary, or Cardiac Rehab
- Open ICU with up to 8-9 ventilated patients at a time
- Department typically staffs 7 RTs during the day and 5 at night
- May assist with infant CPAP initiation
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 3 years of Respiratory Therapy experience
- Experience required in ER, ICU, and inpatient adult care
- Pediatric experience preferred; training available for pediatric care
- Must have skills in ventilator management, arterial blood gas (ABG) sampling and analysis, BiPAP, infant vents/CPAP, resuscitation, and EKG performance
- Assist with intubation (independent intubation not required)
- Ability to perform breathing treatments, vent management, ABGs, and EKGs (inpatient and outpatient)
- Core RTs may place arterial lines
Certifications & Licenses
- Must hold a valid West Virginia Respiratory Therapist license
- Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) via NBRC required; Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) preferred
- ACLS and BLS (AHA) required
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and STABLE certification required
- Must provide a copy of an unexpired driver’s license with submission
- Any licensing issues must be disclosed at time of submission
Orientation & Supervision
- Orientation includes general and classroom modules followed by approximately 3 days of shadowing with a preceptor
- Always a lead therapist or supervisor available for questions
- Skills assessment conducted onsite to determine appropriate assignments
Equipment Used
- Ventilators and respiratory equipment include Puritan Bennett 840, Hamilton C1 (invasive, non-invasive, high flow), Avea, BiPAP V60, and Vapotherm for high flow oxygen therapy
Appearance & Dress Code
- Professional scrubs of any color
- Professional appearance required: no long nails, men must be clean-shaven
