Job Opportunity: Emergency Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Lansing, Michigan
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Evening (4 shifts of 12 hours each, 1:00 PM – 1:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 48


Job Description

  • Work in a Level 1 Trauma Center with Stroke and Heart Center designations, including a Pediatric Emergency Department.
  • Floating to Pediatrics may be required.
  • Weekend requirement: Work 3 weekends (Friday-Sunday) per 4-week schedule; may work 1 to all 3 weekend days.
  • No on-call duties.
  • High patient-to-nurse ratios expected (typically 1:5-6, potentially up to 1:8 during busy times or holidays).

Required Qualifications

  • Current Michigan Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Minimum 2 years of ER nursing experience with Level I trauma experience required.
  • Certifications:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) by American Heart Association
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) — ATCN accepted as alternative
    • NIH Stroke Certification
    • ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) preferred but not required
  • Experience with interpretation and management of dysrhythmias.
  • EPIC electronic health record charting experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with continuous IV sedation and procedural sedation administration.
  • Triage experience.
  • Open to first-time travel nurses.

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License/State ID and Social Security Card required.
  • Background checks including 7-year history, criminal, sex offender, FACIS Level 3, education verification, and others as applicable.
  • Physical exam within 12 months noting latex sensitivity.
  • Immunizations and health screenings:
    • Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination.
    • Negative 2-step TB test or chest X-ray if positive.
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) immunity via vaccines or titers.
    • Hepatitis B immunity or vaccination series or declination.
    • Varicella immunity via vaccines or titers.
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season.
  • Drug screening: 10-panel drug test including THC within 30 days of start (no medical marijuana cards or dilute screens accepted).
  • N95 Fit Mask test within 12 months, updated annually.
  • Facility-specific modules and orientation safety manual acknowledgment required prior to or at orientation.

Additional Notes

  • No Return to Office (RTO) requests allowed for July; RTO must be submitted at time of application.
  • Modules related to orientation are not billable; candidates should allow approximately 5 hours for completion.
  • Two professional references required from previous employers.
  • Resume with 7-year work history and skills checklist required.

This position offers an opportunity to work in a high-acuity emergency setting with a supportive team and a structured weekend schedule. Candidates should be prepared for fast-paced, high-ratio patient care and have strong trauma nursing skills.
