Job Opportunity: Emergency Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Lansing, Michigan
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day shift, 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
Hours per Week: 48
Job Description
- Work in a Level 1 Trauma Center with Stroke and Heart Center designations, including a Pediatric Emergency Department.
- Floating to Pediatrics may be required.
- Weekend requirement: Work 3 weekends (Friday-Sunday) per 4-week schedule; may work 1 to all 3 weekend days.
- No on-call duties.
- High patient-to-nurse ratios expected (typically 1:5-6, potentially up to 1:8 during busy times or holidays).
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Michigan.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year.
- Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients.
- Certifications:
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Experience with interpretation and management of dysrhythmias.
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with continuous IV sedation and procedural sedation administration.
- Triage experience.
- First-time travelers are accepted.
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Valid Driver’s License/State ID and Social Security Card.
- Background checks including:
- 7-year Social Security Number Trace
- National Criminal History Search (7 years)
- National Sex Offender Database Search
- FACIS Level 3 Search
- Education verification and transcript/diploma as applicable
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of assignment start.
- Physical exam within 12 months, noting latex sensitivity.
- Immunizations and health screenings:
- Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray as applicable
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) immunity verification
- Hepatitis B immunity or vaccination series or declination
- Varicella immunity or vaccination or declination
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination (required during flu season)
- Drug screening: 10-panel drug test including THC within 30 days of start (no medical marijuana cards or dilute screens accepted).
- N95 Fit Mask test within 12 months, updated annually.
- Facility-specific modules and orientation safety manual acknowledgment required prior to or at orientation.
Additional Notes
- RTO (Return to Office) documentation must be submitted at time of application; no changes allowed later.
- No RTO allowed for the month of July.
- Modules related to orientation are not billable; candidates should allow approximately 5 hours for completion.
- Two professional references required from previous employers.
- Resume with a 7-year work history and skills checklist required.
Summary
This is a travel Registered Nurse position in an Emergency Room setting requiring strong trauma and critical care skills, multiple certifications, and the ability to work high patient ratios including weekends. The role offers a structured 13-week contract with day shifts and requires compliance with extensive documentation and health requirements. Prior travel experience is not required.
