Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Flint, Michigan
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Job Details
- Specialty: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (L&D RN)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend, with possible rotation off weekends if staffing allows
- Floating: May float to Postpartum if experienced and if unit is open
- Local Candidates: Accepted within a 75-mile radius
- On-Call: Not required
- Block Scheduling: Not accommodated
- Pending License: Not accepted
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Michigan
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 1 year of Labor and Delivery experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required for L&D specialty
Certifications (If Applicable)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – required for certain critical care specialties but not specifically for L&D
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – not required for L&D
- Chemotherapy certification – preferred only for oncology units (not applicable here)
Background and Compliance Requirements
- Background checks must be initiated within 48 hours of booking and include:
- 7-year county, national criminal, and federal checks
- SSN trace, FACIS Level 3, OFAC, SAM.gov, National Sex Offender Registry
- Education verification of highest completed level required (diploma, official letter, or transcripts)
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug test within 30 days prior to start, including common substances such as cocaine, amphetamines, opiates, benzodiazepines, methadone, oxycodone, and others
- Physical exam within 1 year of start (required for agency, not client)
- Fit mask test (N95) within 1 year prior to start; PAPRs accepted with approval if N95 fitting fails
- Immunizations and health documentation:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (valid for 10 years; Td not accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
- Proof of immunity or vaccination for Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR)
- Hepatitis B vaccination series, titer, or annual declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Seasonal flu vaccination or facility-specific medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – May 31) with mask-wearing if exempt
- COVID vaccination preferred but not required
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Valid and clear driver’s license or government photo ID
- Photo for badge: Passport-style photo with solid white or beige background, shoulders up
- Completion of facility-specific orientation and confidentiality/security forms prior to start
- Fingerprinting (Michigan LARA) required for Behavioral Health units; not generally required for L&D
- No annual background check required by client, but agency requires annual background check for direct candidates
- References not required by client but agency standard references should be collected
- Employment application covering last 5 years with explanations for gaps over 30 days
- Skills checklist current within 1 year and updated annually
