Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical (Travel/Contract)

Location: Johnson City, Tennessee
Shift: Night (4 shifts per 12 hours, 18:30–7:00)
Hours per week: 48 hours
Contract length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Patient ratio: 1:7 only (substitute if pre-closed)
• Schedule options: 36/36, 36/48, or 48/48 (no call)
• Floating required
• Hospital may cancel/call off one shift biweekly without penalty if census decreases
• Additional overtime shifts may be flexed based on census/resource needs without penalty
• Expected to actively participate in nursing student support and clinical education alongside clinical care

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee
• Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical nursing experience, with experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association

Orientation & Onboarding

• General orientation begins on Sundays (online computer-based learning)
• 16 hours of nonbillable orientation required
• Photo for badge must be submitted within 48 hours of signed contract (neutral background, no filters, visible face)
• Respirator medical evaluation questionnaire and clearance forms must be completed within 48 hours of signed contract
• Facility-specific dress code, uniform guidelines, and policies (smoking, influenza, contaminated sharps exposure) must be reviewed and acknowledged

Background & Compliance Requirements

• Background check within 30 days of start covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
• Education verification required
• Tennessee Adult Abuse Registry check required for those licensed or working in Tennessee
• NURSYS verification required for RN license

Health & Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start (not required annually)
• Drug screen (standard 9-panel) within 14 days of start
• Respiratory fit mask testing completed onsite (CDC facial hair guidelines apply)
• Immunizations/vaccinations or documented immunity required for:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (vaccine or declination)
  • Tuberculosis (2 PPDs within last 12 months or equivalent testing)
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR titer or documented vaccination/boosters)
  • Varicella (titer or documented vaccination/boosters)
  • Hepatitis B (series, titer, or declination)
• Seasonal flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Sept 29 – Mar 31) with facility-specific exemption forms

Additional Competencies & Documentation

• Medication test/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
• Color blindness testing required once
• Competency exam required
• Annual orientation safety manual acknowledgement required
• References: minimum 2 preferred, 3 ideal
• Skills checklist required
