Description

NICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Portland, Oregon
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Overview

  • Work in a Level 4 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) with 46 beds, caring for critically ill, convalescing, and growing premature and term newborns.
  • Patient admissions include high-risk perinatal cases and transports from multiple states.
  • Family-centered care approach with access to specialists in endocrine, pulmonary, genetics, renal, metabolic, ophthalmology, neurology, pediatric surgery, and cardiothoracic surgery.
  • Teaching hospital environment with opportunities to participate in education of students and pediatric residents.

Schedule

  • Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
  • Weekend work required
  • No call required
  • Floating within the hospital required; no floating to other hospitals
  • Block scheduling accommodations generally not available

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Oregon
  • Minimum 2 years of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) experience, with NICU experience within the last year
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification

Compliance and Onboarding Requirements

  • Valid government-issued photo ID required on first day
  • Background check within 6 months prior to start, including education and work history verification, international searches if applicable, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and national sex offender search
  • Drug testing: Negative 10-panel with methamphetamines listed, within 3 months prior to start
  • Physical exam not required for this specialty but must meet Aya Healthcare standards (within 1 year)
  • Fit mask testing required within 1 year prior to start (must be completed through agency, not onsite)
  • Immunizations/vaccinations or signed declinations required for:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B
    • Varicella
    • Seasonal Flu (deadline December 1, 2025)
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months required, with TB questionnaire
  • Completion of facility-specific compliance modules prior to start, including:
    • Information Privacy and Security Essentials
    • Integrity Foundations
    • Harassment Prevention Fundamentals
    • Glucometer 2026 and Omnicell Nurse Patient Care Training (exemptions apply)
    • Vocera Badge Training for inpatient RNs
  • Professional appearance policy must be reviewed and signed prior to start
  • Facility-specific documents and attestations (e.g., Coronavirus Protocol Attestation) must be reviewed and signed

  • Return-to-Work restrictions: maximum 1 week
  • Charting system: EPIC
  • Facility is a Magnet hospital, Level I Trauma Center, and teaching hospital
  • Scrubs provided for OR; no prints on scrubs
  • Parking cost approximately $16 daily
