Registered Nurse (Critical Care Unit)

Location

Alexandria, Louisiana

Employment Type

Travel contract
Contract length: 13 weeks

Work Schedule

Shift: 7 AM – 7 PM (Days)
Every other weekend required
No on-call
No floating

Unit and Patient Population

Mixed cardiac and medical ICU
Patient types include:
- Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA)
- Acute Respiratory Failure
- Myocardial Infarctions (MIs)
- Coronary Artery Bypass Grafts (CABGs)
- Ventilator-dependent patients

Requirements/Qualifications

Valid RN license in Louisiana
Minimum 1 year of Coronary Care Unit (CCU) experience within the last year
BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
ACLS certification
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Experience with Intra-Aortic Balloon Pumps (IABP)
Experience with Impella devices
Experience with post-operative cardiovascular surgeries
Experience with Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT)

Nurse-to-Patient Ratio

ICU patients: 2:1
Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) patients: 4:1

Orientation and Competency Requirements

New hires must complete New Nurses Orientation within 30 days
Preceptorship by trained staff with competency validations specific to critical care
Annual competency verifications required

Job Responsibilities

Provide independent nursing care in a critical care setting
Perform comprehensive nursing process: assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation
Address complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families
Administer medications and treatments per protocol; monitor for side effects and effectiveness
Document patient history, symptoms, medications, and care provided
Assess learning needs and provide education to patients, families, and caregivers
Delegate and assign tasks appropriately to manage clinical situations
