Medical Surgical Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Ann Arbor, Michigan
Position Details

- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: Day/Night Rotating (3x12-hour shifts or 3x8-hour shifts plus 1x12-hour shift; total 36 hours/week)
- Patient Population: Neurology and neurosurgery patients including brain and spinal cord tumors, epilepsy, stroke, cerebral aneurysm, neuropathy, Myasthenia Gravis, head and spinal cord trauma, and neuro oncology.
- Unit Size: 48 beds (including 10 stroke beds and 10 Epilepsy Monitoring Unit beds)
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: 1:4 on weekdays, nights, and weekends
- Call: None
- Float: Required as needed to designated units during low census
- Weekend Requirement: 5 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Michigan
- Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical nursing experience, with at least 1 year of recent Med Surg experience within the last year
- Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Health and Compliance Requirements
- Flu Vaccination: Mandatory for 2025-2026 flu season (11/1 - 3/31); no exemptions allowed (medical or religious). Egg-free vaccine available for allergies.
- COVID-19 Vaccination: No longer required
- Physical Exam: Required within 1 year of start, must be updated annually
- Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start; instant drug screens NOT accepted; must be updated annually
- TB Screening: Negative PPD, Qgold, or T-spot within 1 year; if past positive, clear chest X-ray within 5 years and annual TB questionnaire required
- Fit Mask Test: Required within 1 year of start (N95 or equivalent masks accepted); must be renewed annually
- Immunizations: Proof of immunity or vaccination for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, and Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination as applicable)
Orientation and Onboarding
- Orientation includes pass/fail EKG competency testing; study materials provided prior to start
- New employees must complete facility-specific orientation paperwork on the first day
- ID badge and pager return required at assignment end to avoid fees
- Facility uses an ID management system requiring multiple forms of ID upload before assignment start
Additional Notes
- Flu vaccination requirement is strict with no exemptions allowed
- Floating to other units may be required during low census periods
- No call responsibilities
- Orientation pay rate is provided but pay details are excluded here per instructions
This position is ideal for experienced travel Registered Nurses with neurology or medical-surgical background who have prior travel contract experience and meet strict immunization and compliance requirements.
