Description
Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical Neuro (Travel/Contract)
Location: Ann Arbor, Michigan
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3x12 hour shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours total (3x12s or 3x8s + 1x12)
Unit Overview
- 48-bed unit specializing in neurology and neurosurgery patients
- Patient diagnoses include brain and spinal cord tumors, epilepsy, stroke, cerebral aneurysm, neuropathy, Myasthenia Gravis, head and spinal cord trauma, and neuro oncology
- Unit includes 10 stroke beds and 10 Epilepsy Monitoring Unit beds
Staffing & Workload
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4 on weekdays, nights, and weekends
- No call required
- Floating to designated units as needed during low census
- Weekend requirement: 5 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Michigan
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Neurology experience
- One completed travel nursing assignment
- BLS - Basic Life Support certification issued by the American Heart Association
Health & Safety Requirements
- Flu vaccination mandatory for 2025-2026 flu season (no exemptions allowed; egg-free vaccine available for allergies)
- COVID-19 vaccination not required
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (instant drug screens not accepted)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
- Fit mask (N95) fit test within 1 year of start, renewed annually
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; if past positive TB, clear chest X-ray within 5 years and annual TB questionnaire required
- Immunization or positive titer documentation required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
- Varicella
Documentation & Compliance
- Government-issued photo ID required
- Background checks including 7-year history, sex offender registry, nationwide checks, EPLS/GSA/SAM, and HHS/OIG clearance required prior to start and updated annually
- E-Verify or attestation required
- Two recent professional references from managers or supervisors (charge nurse references not accepted)
- Facility-specific documents and agreements must be reviewed and signed prior to start, including confidentiality, code of conduct, conflict of interest, sexual harassment, and misconduct policies
- Pass/fail competency testing (EKG/medication) required for Telemetry and ICU units; study materials provided prior to orientation
- Orientation paperwork must be completed and submitted promptly during first day of assignment

- Badge and pager return required at assignment end to avoid fees
- Orientation rate provided for first week (not included here)
- Floating expectations apply to all new employees
- Candidates must complete facility onboarding including ID management system prior to start
