Description

Pharmacist Inpatient - Travel/Contract

Location: New Haven, Connecticut
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Inpatient pharmacist role within a children's hospital pharmacy setting.
  • Shifts: 5 days per week, 8 hours per day; day shift (7:00 AM - 3:30 PM) or evening shift (2:30 PM - 11:00 PM), depending on department needs.
  • Candidates with inpatient pharmacy experience and some exposure to pediatric and women's health are considered.
  • Possible assignments include clinical staffing in relevant areas or operational roles such as Pharmacist in Charge or sterile processing, based on experience and competence.
  • Facility is a short-term acute care hospital and Level I Trauma Center.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Pharmacist license in Connecticut.
  • Minimum of 3 years of pharmacist experience.
  • Pharmacist experience within the last year.
  • Experience in an inpatient setting.

Certifications & Competencies

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam: Required within 12 months of start; must score 85% to pass.
  • Color Blind Testing: Required for all candidates on/after 8/2/2024; must score 80% or higher.
  • Background checks including 7-year criminal history, sex offender search, and federal exclusions (EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG) required.
  • Education verification and foreign equivalency evaluation required for internationally educated candidates.

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start.
  • Fit mask test within 12 months of start; must be updated annually.
  • 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start.
  • Immunizations and titers required or acceptable alternatives:
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) - positive titer or 2 vaccines.
    • Varicella - positive titer, 2 vaccines, or physician-documented history.
    • Hepatitis B - positive titer, proof of vaccine series, or declination within 1 year.
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap - highly preferred for pediatric specialties; declination acceptable.
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation required.
  • Annual flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/1 - 3/31).
  • COVID vaccination series preferred but not required.

  • Completion of various facility-specific training modules and attestations, including but not limited to:
    • Language Services Training
    • CAUTI Education Training (except PICU, NICU, Psychiatry/Behavioral Health)
    • Suicide Risk and Environmental Assessment Training
    • Mobile Heartbeat Alarm Module (exemptions apply)
    • Stroke Education (exemptions apply)
    • CLABSI Prevention Training
    • Preventing Pressure Injury Training
    • Patient Transportation with Oxygen Education
    • Pyxis ES MedStation Training
    • Baxter Pump Interoperability Training
    • Patient Bedside Rounding (exemptions apply)
    • Ventricular Assist Device Awareness (exemptions apply)
    • Blood Administration Module (annual update required; exemptions apply)
    • New Employee Orientation Module
    • 21st Century Cures Act Module (required for pharmacists)
    • Fire Safety Module (effective 5/4/2026)
    • Chaperone Policy Training (effective 5/31/2024)

Additional Requirements

  • Employment application with 7-year work history and no gaps greater than 90 days.
  • Verification of last 7 years of employment required.
  • One supervisor reference within the past year required for Cardio Thoracic ICU assignments; otherwise, standard references apply.
  • Attestation of prior radiation exposure required if assigned to certain specialized units (not typically applicable to pharmacy).
