Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Emergency Room
Location
- Bridgeport, West Virginia
Assignment Details
- Travel assignment for 13 weeks
- Start date: June
- Shift: 11:00 AM – 11:00 PM (12-hour shifts)
- Hours per week: 36
- No floating outside the Emergency Department
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (Saturday/Sunday for both day and night shifts)
- Holiday schedule: Rotate with core staff
Work Environment
- 33-bed Emergency Department with triage area and separate Fast Track (open 11 AM – 11 PM)
- Nurse-to-patient ratios:
- 1:4 in main ER
- 1:5 in 5-bed lower acuity area within ER
- 1:6 in Fast Track
- Charge Nurse role available (no patient assignment)
- Nurse aides/ER techs present (3 per shift, ratio 1:10-12)
- Telemetry monitoring required; must be able to read and interpret strips
- Ventilator experience required (Servo ventilators)
- EMR system: EPIC
- IV team available hospital-wide until 10 PM weekdays and 3:30 PM weekends
- Respiratory therapists available 24/7; RNs may perform aerosols for non-vented patients
- Pharmacy available 24/7 (no pharmacist in ER)
- Hospitalist/Intensivist coverage: 3 physicians on site 11 AM – 11 PM; reduced coverage overnight; NPs and PAs also utilized
- Floor-specific orientation: 1-3 shifts with preceptor
Patient Population & Common Diagnoses
- Typical ER patients including chest pain, respiratory failure, abdominal pain
- Approximately 15% pediatric patients
- Occasional gunshot wounds, closed head injuries
- Major trauma patients stabilized and transferred to a Level 1 Trauma Center about 40-45 minutes away
- Approximately 18% admission rate
- Average patient stay: ~2 hours 45 minutes
- No patient holds except when float pool staff assist
Required Certifications & Qualifications
- Current RN license
- BLS and ACLS certifications required
- PALS preferred
- Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips
- Experience with ventilators required
