Unit Description
- Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) with 20 adult ICU beds
- Patient population includes post-major operations and those with complications requiring extensive physiological monitoring
- Common diagnoses: peripheral vascular diseases, cancer, hepatic, pancreatic or renal failure, cardiac and pulmonary disease, multi-system failure
- Care includes Swan-Ganz monitoring, ventilator support, parenteral nutrition, fluid and electrolyte management
- Receives adult liver transplants and adult ECMO/respiratory failure patients
- May receive overflow from Trauma, Neuro, Medicine, and Cardiac ICUs
- Charge nurses participate as adult Rapid Response Providers
- Nurse-to-patient ratio typically 1:2; may increase to 1:3 during boarding of general care/telemetry/moderate care patients
- Offers 12-hour night shifts, comprehensive orientation, and career development opportunities

Schedule
- Day shift: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM (3 shifts per week)
- Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM (3 shifts per week)
- 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
- Weekend work every other weekend
- No call required
- Floating to designated units during low census expected for all new employees
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Michigan
- Minimum 1 year of recent Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) experience within the last year
- Minimum 1 year of Emergency Department (ED) RN experience
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Experience with Epic electronic medical record system

- Orientation rate provided for first week (not included here)
- Badge and pager return required at assignment end to avoid fees
- Facility-specific ID proofing process must be completed before starting
- COVID vaccinations no longer required
