Registered Nurse (Surgery) - Travel Assignment

Location: Alamogordo, New Mexico
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 4 days per week, 10 hours per day
Employment Type: Full Time, Travel


Job Summary

Provide independent and proficient nursing care to surgical patients across multiple specialties including Orthopedic, General, Podiatry, GYN/OB (including C-Sections), Pain Management, Urology, and Endoscopy. Apply the nursing process through assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation while collaborating with staff, physicians, and management to meet patient needs. Maintain clinical competency and continue learning new skills to ensure safe, direct patient care.


Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate leadership and teamwork within the department.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams, respecting cultural and religious beliefs.
  • Advocate for patients and involve families in care while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Manage medication administration following the five rights.
  • Utilize time management skills to maximize productivity.
  • Participate in hospital and departmental quality and legal compliance activities.
  • Adhere to organizational policies, procedures, and customer service standards.
  • Handle end-of-life care decisions appropriately.
  • Maintain professional conduct and assist in community service programs as requested.
  • Use chain of command to resolve issues and support the mission and philosophy of the hospital and department.
  • Basic computer skills required; additional language skills preferred.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Mexico
  • Minimum 1 year of Med Surg nursing experience within the last year
  • Operating Room (OR) experience
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Patient Population

  • Surgical patients including Orthopedic, General Surgery, Podiatry, Gynecology/Obstetrics (including C-Sections), Pain Management, Urology, and Endoscopy.

Work Schedule

  • 4 days per week, 10 hours per day.
