Job Opportunity: CVOR Registered Nurse
Location: Greensburg, Pennsylvania
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Position requires a Registered Nurse with a minimum of 2 years of experience.
- Must have cardio thoracic experience.
- Typical shift: Day shift, 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday (40 hours/week).
- Shift start times may vary slightly depending on case schedule (earliest clock-in 5:45 AM, latest clock-out 3:10 PM).
- On-call responsibilities:
- Weekday call 1-2 times per week, staying until cases finish and then on call from home if living within 30-40 minutes.
- Weekend call 1-2 weekends per 6-week schedule, from Friday 3 PM to Monday 7 AM, mostly from home unless called in.
- The heart team typically handles about 2 cases per day.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Pennsylvania.
- Minimum 2 years of CVOR experience, including experience within the last year.
- Thoracic Surgery experience.
- ACLS certification.
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- PALS certification.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
- Emergency contact form completed prior to start.
- Background checks within 30 days of start, including:
- Social Security trace and county searches for last 7 years.
- Nationwide and Pennsylvania state sex offender registry checks.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks.
- Pennsylvania Department of Human Services fingerprint results required prior to start.
- Physical exam within 1 year of start date.
- Negative TB test (PPD, QuantiFERON Gold, or T-spot) within 1 year or negative chest X-ray if previously positive. Annual TB questionnaire required for past positive TB.
- Immunizations or titers within 10 years for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B vaccine series, positive titer within 10 years, or signed declination.
- Negative 15-panel drug screen within 30 days of start.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or accepted declination during flu season (Oct 1 - Apr 1).
Competencies & Training
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam with minimum 80% passing score or meet/exceed Angoff score.
- General competency exam with minimum 80% passing score or meet/exceed Angoff score.
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Workplace Violence Prevention training completed onsite if applicable.
- Facility-specific trainings and checklists must be completed prior to start, including:
- Orientation checklist
- Pandemic attestation
- Code of conduct
- Confidentiality agreement
- Disclosure statement
- Patient policy assessments (e.g., skin integrity, mobility, catheter care) with 100% quiz passing required.
- Cardiac procedure education review for telemetry units.
- Competency assessment form to be brought to orientation and submitted upon completion.
References
- 2 professional references required for travel, allied, or per diem acute care roles (within 3 years).
- 1 professional reference required for per diem non-acute care roles.
Additional Notes
- The schedule is created in 6-week blocks.
- The team consists of 3 RNs on the heart team.
- Weekend call is rarely activated.
- All required documents and certifications must be uploaded and verified prior to start.
This position is ideal for experienced CVOR RNs with cardio thoracic expertise seeking a travel contract in Pennsylvania with structured day shifts and on-call responsibilities.
