Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Contract Length: 16 weeks
Job Overview
- Work on a Med Surg Oncology unit with 12-hour day/night rotating shifts (days, nights, or combination based on staffing needs).
- Patient population primarily includes oncology patients requiring continuous cardiac monitoring related to chemotherapy, symptom management, and comorbidity care.
- Emphasis on infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention.
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4.
- Required to float to units of equivalent or lower acuity as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Ohio
- Med Surg / Telemetry (2 years of experience)
- Med Surg / Telemetry experience within the last year
- BLS issued by American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Interpretation of dysrhythmias
- Accessing ports
- Arterial line management
- Blood product administration
- Central line care and management
- PICC line management
- Assist with chest tube insertion and removal
- High flow nasal cannula (HFNC) management
- Interpretation of ABGs
- Experience with Epic
Clinical Skills & Competencies
- Interpretation of dysrhythmias.
- Accessing and managing ports, arterial lines, central lines, and PICC lines.
- Blood product administration.
- IV starts.
- Assisting with chest tube insertion/removal.
- Management of high flow nasal cannula (HFNC).
- Interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs).
Certifications & Training
- Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA provider or instructor accepted.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be required depending on unit (check with recruiter).
- Annual orientation safety manual acknowledgement.
- Stroke education (BEFAST) continuing education required annually for stroke-capable areas.
- NIH Stroke Certification may be required within 1 year of start and renewed every 2 years for certain units.
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually.
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease.
- Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or annual TB questionnaire.
- Tdap vaccination (adult dose) required; exemptions not allowed for those working with infants or pregnant patients.
- 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers for Rubeola, Mumps, and Rubella; boosters required if low titers.
- Varicella immunity via 2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemptions require documentation.
- Hepatitis B immunity via titer or 3-vaccine series; declination accepted.
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, benzodiazepines, THC, cocaine, opiates, etc.).
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31); mask required if declining.
- COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended.
- Annual fit mask (N95) testing required for inpatient/patient-facing roles starting 7/13/2026 and beyond.
Equipment & Technology Used
- B450 monitors with GE telemetry system.
- Bladder scanner.
- Alaris infusion pumps.
- Stryker beds.
Shift Details
- 12-hour shifts, 3 shifts per week (36 hours/week).
- Day shift: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
- Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
- Rotating schedule with shift assignments reviewed every 4 weeks (subject to staffing needs).
Additional Notes
- Parking permits available for agency staff (costs and options vary).
- Background checks include SS trace, counties lived/worked, nationwide search, sex offender registry, and motor vehicle record if driving is required.
- Fingerprinting must be completed prior to start; results can take 1-2 weeks or longer if done by mail.
- Candidates must review and sign dress code and hand hygiene policies.
- Confidential Fraud Waste Abuse and Compliance Reporting training and acknowledgment required.
This position is ideal for experienced RNs comfortable with oncology and telemetry patient care, who are flexible with rotating shifts and floating to similar acuity units. Prior travel experience is preferred but not required.
