Description

Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – SICU (Night Shift)

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Work Schedule

  • Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM (3 shifts of 12 hours each per week)
  • 36 hours per week
  • Every other weekend required
  • Floating and call responsibilities required

Unit and Specialty

  • Surgical ICU / Trauma ICU / Burn ICU / Transplant ICU experience preferred
  • Recent ICU experience required

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Ohio
  • Minimum 2 years of Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Burn ICU experience
  • Transplant ICU experience
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Documentation and Systems

  • Electronic Medical Record: Epic
  • Medication dispensing systems: Pyxis, Accudose, Omnicell
  • Communication method: SBAR

Background and Credentialing Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific code 3701.881)
  • Education verification from accredited nursing programs (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA) required
  • State license verification within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification required for RN license
  • Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending at start
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug test within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene)
  • 2 professional references required (at least one from a manager or formal leadership)
  • Employment application and skills checklist required

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
  • Fit mask test (N95) required annually for inpatient/patient-facing roles; must be valid for entire assignment length or completed onsite during first week
  • Immunizations/vaccinations required:
    • Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year (or TB questionnaire annually)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella: 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer (boosters required if low titer)
    • Hepatitis B: Titer or 3-vaccine series (declination accepted)
    • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer (medical exemption requires documentation)
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31); mask required if declining
  • COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended

Competency and Testing Requirements

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required prior to start
  • Unit-specific competency exam required
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start (with remediation process if failed)

Additional Information

  • Parking options available for travelers (costs and availability subject to change)
  • Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgment required annually
  • Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
  • Ethics and Compliance policies must be reviewed and signed annually for new contracts starting 11/7/24 and beyond
