Registered Nurse - Operating Room
Location: New Brunswick, New Jersey
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Day shift, 11:00 AM to 7:30 PM (5 days a week, 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week)
- Weekend/Holiday Requirement: No weekends or holidays required
- On-Call: No on-call required
- Block Scheduling: Considered
- Floating: Will float to the Main OR on the Main Campus (connected by pedestrian bridge)
- Patient Population: Surgical oncologic procedures, no pediatric patients
- Case Types: Vascular, Thoracic, Endoscopic, General Surgery, Gynecology, Plastics, Robotics (Da Vinci), Urology, Trauma
- Scrub Role: Scrub required
- Charting System: EPIC
- Scrub Color: Provided
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Valid RN license in New Jersey
- Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- ACLS certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Licensure: Valid RN license for New Jersey
- Government Issued Photo ID: Driver’s license required within 48 hours of signing
- Background Checks:
- Criminal background check within 30 days of start
- EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and New Jersey Department of Treasury Exclusions List checks within 30 days of start and for every contract renewal/extension
- Health Requirements:
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray as per facility guidelines
- Physical exam within the last 12 months, cleared to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease
- Drug screen within 30 days of start (10-panel urine test)
- Influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption annually
- Fit test and Respiratory Medical Clearance prior to start (on-site fit testing mandatory)
- Immunizations or proof of immunity for Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, and Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
- Latex allergy screening questionnaire if job tasks require glove use
- Competency Exams:
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam within 72 hours of signing
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam within 72 hours of signing
- IV Therapy/Infusion exam (not required for OR specialties)
- Color Blind Testing within 1 year if job tasks require color discrimination
- Pass/Fail Testing:
- Pharmacology and EKG exams required with remediation and cancellation policies in place
- References: Two references within the last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference
- Employment History: 7 years of work history required, with verification of at least 1 year prior to start date (New Jersey state mandate)
Additional Information
- Facility: Stand-alone cancer center with onsite lab and CSP (Central Sterile Processing)
- Support: Turnover and EVS (Environmental Services) team available
- Orientation: Annual education sign-off and facility-specific orientation required
- Floating Policy: Must complete floating policy for every new assignment or site transfer
- Safety Training: OSHA, HIPAA, and Joint Commission annual training required
- Special Training:
- Iron Temple Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) certification required for ER, Peds ER, and Behavioral Health RNs (not applicable here)
- Baxter Orientation videos required for RNs only
This position offers a specialized OR nursing role focused on oncologic surgical cases with advanced robotic system experience preferred. It is suitable for RNs with at least 2 years of OR experience, who hold current BLS and ACLS certifications, and are comfortable floating within OR units. No weekend or on-call duties are required.
