ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Weekend day shifts (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM) plus one additional shift during the week
  • Float pool position covering multiple ICUs including Neuro ICU, Surgical ICUs, Medical ICUs (MICU), Cardiology/Diagnostics, CVICU, SICU, NCCU
  • Nurses float within units of equivalent or lower acuity based on staffing and patient needs

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Ohio
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 2 years of Critical Care Float experience, including experience within the last year
  • ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • Proficiency with Epic electronic health record system

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific code 3701.881)
  • Education verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug test within 3 months of start (no pending results allowed)
  • State license verification within 30 days of start
  • 2 professional references required (at least one from a manager or formal leadership)
  • Employment application and skills checklist required
  • Annual acknowledgment of dress code, hand hygiene, ethics, and compliance policies
  • Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually

Health and Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – 2 vaccines or positive titer with boosters if needed
    • Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer with boosters if needed
    • Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination accepted)
  • Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or chest x-ray if positive
  • Annual TB questionnaire in lieu of annual TB test renewal
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination with mask requirement during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31)
  • Fit mask (N95) testing annually required for inpatient/patient-facing roles starting 7/13/2026 and beyond
  • COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended

Competency and Testing Requirements

  • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam prior to start
  • Unit-specific competency exams required
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start (with remediation process if failed)

Shift and Hours

  • 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (36 hours/week)
  • Weekend day shifts plus one weekday shift

Additional Notes

  • Parking options available with varying costs and shuttle services (not detailed here)
  • Nurses must be flexible to float across multiple ICU units based on acuity and staffing needs
