Job Opportunity: Hospice Registered Nurse
Location: Portland, Oregon
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Day shift, 8 hours per day (5x8 hour shifts, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM)
- Patient Ratio: 1:1 (may visit up to 6 patients per day)
- Productivity Standard: 30 productivity points per day
- Start Date: ASAP
- Weekend Requirement: No
- On-Call: No
- Floating: No
- Block Schedule: Not accommodated
- Locals Accepted: Yes (within 50-75 mile radius)
- Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off up to one shift every two weeks
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Oregon
- Minimum 1 year of hospice nursing experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

- Type of Facility: Home Health / Hospice
- Attire: Any basic color scrubs
- Charting System: EPIC
- Parking: Free
- Mileage Reimbursement: IRS standard
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background Checks: Comprehensive background check within 90 days of start, including SSN trace, education verification, motor vehicle record (MVR), and state-specific searches
- Education Verification: Required for nursing degree; international education requires additional documentation
- References: Minimum 2 references covering 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty within the last 3 years
- Employment Application: Must include at least last 5 years of employment with month/year format
- Physical Exam: Within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO, indicating fitness to work
- Drug Testing: 9-panel drug screen within 12 months of start (instant acceptable)
- Immunizations & Health:
- TDAP vaccine within 10 years or declination
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season
- COVID vaccination record preferred (declinations accepted)
- Respiratory Safety Clearance: Required annually for respirator use (travel only)
- Fit Mask Testing: Required annually (travel only)
- Suicide Prevention Training: Required for RNs using out-of-state compact license working in Washington
- State-Specific Searches: Required for Oregon and Washington placements, including abuse/neglect and patrol searches
Training & Competency
- Annual Regulatory Modules: Required via online learning system (approx. 3.5 hours)
- Specialty-Specific Modules: Required annually for hospice/home health roles
- EPIC Training: Completion of EPIC modules required within one week of orientation
- Competency Exams: Medication and specialty competency exams as applicable
- Additional Certifications:
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be required depending on clinical track
- Other certifications (PALS, NRP, Chemotherapy, EFM, CPI, IV Certification, NIH Stroke, MAB) as applicable based on clinical track
Additional Notes
- Floating Policy: Acknowledgement required; may be asked to float to nearby facilities within reasonable distance
- Photo for Badge: Passport-style photo with neutral background required prior to start
- Work History Verification: Required if exceptions to reference requirements are requested
- Prior Travel Experience: Required; first-time travelers not accepted for this role
This position is ideal for experienced hospice RNs licensed in both Oregon and Washington who are seeking a travel contract with day shifts and a home health/hospice setting.
