Description

Job Opportunity: X-Ray Tech

Location: Newport News, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Work Schedule

  • Rotating 2-week schedule repeating every 2 weeks:
    • Week 1:
      • Sunday: Off
      • Monday & Tuesday: 2:00 PM – 12:00 AM
      • Wednesday & Thursday: 10:00 PM – 8:00 AM
      • Friday & Saturday: Off
    • Week 2:
      • Sunday, Monday, Tuesday: Off
      • Wednesday & Thursday: 2:00 PM – 12:00 AM
      • Friday & Saturday: 10:00 PM – 8:00 AM
  • Shift type: Evening and Night shifts (4x10 hour shifts per week)
  • Total hours per week: 40

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Radiology Technologist license in Virginia
  • Minimum of 1 year of Radiology Technologist experience within the last year
  • Experience as an X-Ray Technician
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Background and Health Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within one year of start date, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
  • Drug screen within the last 12 months (specific drug panels required)
  • Physical exam within the last 12 months
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within the last 12 months; if positive TB test, additional clearance documentation required
  • Required vaccinations or proof of immunity (or approved exemptions) for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B (series, titer, or facility-specific declination)
    • Seasonal Flu vaccination during flu season (10/1–3/31) with strict deadlines; medical or religious exemptions accepted with approval
  • COVID vaccine series preferred; if no vaccine, facility-specific declination form required

Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Photo for badge: recent, professional headshot meeting specific guidelines (no hats, clear face, neutral background, no digital copies of IDs)
  • Completion and signing of facility policies and agreements prior to start, including:
    • Confidentiality Agreement
    • Scrub Colors Policy
    • Safety Brochure
    • Dress Code Policy
    • Drug-Free Policy
    • Hand Washing Hygiene Policy (review only)
  • Annual updates required for certain documents and competencies
  • Fingerprinting requirements updated as of 7/15/2025; check if applicable for behavioral health placements

Additional Notes

  • Must complete all required documentation and certifications at least 5 days prior to start date
  • Competency exams and pass/fail testing (e.g., EKG/medication) will be administered during orientation
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position
  • Confirm ACLS and other certifications based on unit assignment before start

Marigold is polite and professional. She goes above and beyond to ensure the contractor is well informed and has everything needed to be successful.
