Registered Nurse (MedSurg/Telemetry Float Pool) - West Virginia

Location

  • City: Bridgeport, West Virginia

Contract Length

  • 13 weeks

Unit/Department

  • MedSurg/Telemetry Float Pool covering multiple units:
    • Most frequent: 6N (36 beds), 7N (29 beds)
    • Others: 4N (36 beds), 5S (36 beds), 6S (36 beds), Critical Care (20 beds)
  • Patient rooms are mostly private

Patient Care & Common Diagnoses

  • Typical patient conditions include:
    • Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)
    • Cardiac catheterization patients
    • Chest pain
    • Pneumonia
    • Chronic renal disease
    • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
    • Orthopedics
    • Oncology (permanent staff administer chemotherapy)

Nurse-to-Patient Ratios

  • Generally 1:5-6 for day and night shifts
  • Occasionally up to 1:7 near shift end, depending on patient acuity

Required Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)

Experience & Skills

  • Must pass a cardiac rhythm exam (ACLS certification expected to prepare candidates adequately)
  • No requirement to titrate drips
  • Must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips

Respiratory Equipment

  • CPAP and BiPAP available; respiratory therapists manage these
  • Nurses are not expected to manage ventilators or tracheostomies

Telemetry & Monitoring

  • Telemetry monitors (Phillips brand) present on most units
  • Monitor technicians available, but RNs must be proficient in reading and interpreting cardiac strips

Staffing & Supervision

  • Charge nurse present on every unit
    • Day shift charge nurse does not take patient assignments
    • Night shift charge nurse does take patient assignments
  • Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) support nursing staff on all units

Scheduling & Shifts

  • 12-hour shifts: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM (Days) or 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM (Nights)
  • Weekend requirement: every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday for both day and night shifts)
  • Holiday shifts included in rotation with permanent staff
  • Float pool nurses report to clinical coordinator before shift for unit assignment
  • Nurses typically assigned a "parent unit" and care for basic telemetry patients within scope

Orientation

  • 1-2 shifts of orientation with a preceptor on the unit

Dress Code

  • Royal blue scrubs for RNs

Additional Notes

  • Must comply with a 50-mile radius rule for candidate submissions
  • Candidates must provide a copy of an unexpired driver’s license

Required Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in West Virginia
  • BLS and ACLS certifications
  • Ability to pass cardiac rhythm exam
  • Experience in MedSurg and telemetry nursing preferred
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position

Marigold is polite and professional. She goes above and beyond to ensure the contractor is well informed and has everything needed to be successful. Cons

Onboarding is somewhat tedious, but they do dot every "i" and cross every T.
