Registered Nurse (RN) – MedSurg/Telemetry Float Pool

Location: Bridgeport, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours (12-hour shifts)
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (Saturday/Sunday)
Holiday Requirement: Included in holiday rotation with permanent staff

Unit and Patient Care Details

• Float pool covers multiple units: primarily 6N (36 beds) and 7N (29 beds), also 4N, 5S, 6S (each 36 beds), and Critical Care (20 beds).
• Patient types include CHF, cardiac catheterization, chest pain, pneumonia, chronic renal disease, COPD, orthopedic, and oncology (permanent staff administer chemo).
• Nurse-to-patient ratios generally 1:5-6; occasionally up to 1:7 near shift end depending on acuity.
• Nurses float to assigned "parent unit" and care for basic telemetry patients within scope of practice.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Current RN license required.
• BLS and ACLS certifications mandatory.
• Must pass a cardiac rhythm exam prior to assignment (ACLS-trained RNs expected to pass easily).
• Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips is required; monitor techs are available on most units.
• No titration of drips required; no management of set-rate cardiac drips.
• Experience with telemetry patients and cardiac rhythms strongly preferred.

Equipment and Support

• Respiratory equipment on units includes CPAP and BiPAP; respiratory therapists manage these devices.
• Nurses do not manage ventilators or tracheostomies.
• CNAs are present on all units to assist with patient care.

Scheduling and Orientation

• 12-hour night shifts, 7 PM to 7 AM.
• Scheduling includes every-other-weekend shifts and holiday rotations with permanent staff.
• Float pool nurses receive 1-2 shifts of orientation with a preceptor on their assigned unit before starting independently.

Additional Information

• Dress code: Royal blue scrubs for RNs.
• Must comply with a 50-mile radius rule for candidate submissions.
• Submission requires a copy of an unexpired driver’s license.
• Float pool nurses report to the clinical coordinator’s office before shift for unit assignment.

This position is ideal for RNs with telemetry experience who are comfortable floating between med-surg and telemetry units, working night shifts, and managing a moderate patient load without drip titration responsibilities.
