Description

Registered Nurse (Float Pool)

Location: Weirton, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Days
Hours: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
Schedule:

  • Self-scheduling with 3 shifts per week
  • Schedule made 4 weeks in advance
  • Every other weekend required
  • Holiday rotation participation possible (split between groups)
  • No call or standby requirement

Unit Assignments & Patient Ratios

  • Float to multiple units of varying acuity levels based on skillset

  • Units include:

    • Critical Care Unit (CCU) – 10 beds, ratio 1:2-3
    • Intermediate Care (IMC) – 30 beds, ratio 1:4-6
    • Medical-Surgical Level 7 – 27 beds, ratio 1:5-6
    • Medical-Surgical Level 8 – 48 beds, ratio 1:5-8
    • Skilled Care – 33 beds, ratio 1:8-10
    • Emergency Department (ED) – 15 beds (ratios TBD)
  • Assignments communicated via text message within 2 hours before shift start

  • Nurses clock in on assigned unit and complete daily timesheets


Patient Population & Common Diagnoses

  • NSTEMI, Pneumonia, Sepsis, Diabetes, Heart Disease, Diverticulitis, and others

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • Current RN license (West Virginia)
  • BLS certification required
  • ACLS certification required if working in CCU or ED

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years nursing experience
  • Prefer at least 1 year ICU or 1 year ED experience
  • Ideal candidate is an ICU/Stepdown traveler comfortable floating to lower acuity units
  • Prior travel experience not explicitly required

Clinical Responsibilities & Skills

  • Manage patient care across multiple units with varying acuity
  • Comfortable with patient ratios ranging from 1:2 up to 1:10
  • Expected to titrate drips (e.g., Heparin) in ED and CCU
  • Manage critical drips independently in higher acuity units
  • Perform ADLs, vital signs, bathing, toileting, feeding, repositioning, answering call lights, blood sugar monitoring
  • Troubleshoot respiratory equipment (ventilators, trachs, BiPAP, CPAP, Airvo) alongside RTs
  • Read and interpret telemetry strips; print strips, perform measurements, identify rhythms
  • Work with tele/monitor techs available 24/7

Orientation & Training

  • 1 day unit-specific orientation plus 1 day with a preceptor
  • Orientation provided for only one unit before independent floating

Additional Information

  • Must comply with a 50-mile radius rule for submissions (driver’s license required)
  • Licensing issues must be disclosed at time of submission
  • Dress code: Navy blue scrubs
  • Charge nurse present on each shift; may take patient assignments as needed
  • Nurse aide/patient care tech ratios approximately 1:7-15, assisting with basic care tasks

Marigold is polite and professional. She goes above and beyond to ensure the contractor is well informed and has everything needed to be successful. Cons

Onboarding is somewhat tedious, but they do dot every "i" and cross every T.
