Registered Nurse - PCU Float (Travel/Contract)

Location: Wichita Falls, Texas
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Position primarily supports Medical-Surgical units with floating responsibilities.
  • Work schedule: 84 hours biweekly with a 72-hour guarantee. Must agree to an alternating 36/48 hour schedule; facility may consider straight 48-hour shifts.
  • Shift: Night shift, either 3 or 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM to 7:00 AM).
  • Start date around August 10.
  • Weekend work required, potentially most weekends during the contract. Block scheduling may be accommodated but set schedules cannot be guaranteed.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Texas.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU), with at least some PCU experience within the last year.
  • Prior travel nursing experience required.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
  • Background check within 1 year of start, including SS trace, county searches for last 7 years, nationwide, and sex offender registry. Must be renewed annually.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start.
  • NURSYS verification for RN license within 30 days of start.
  • E-Verify or attestation required.
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start; must be completed within 72 hours of contract signing.
  • Immunizations and health screenings required (must be completed within 72 hours of contract signing unless otherwise noted):
    • TDAP vaccine within 10 years
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (2-step PPD or equivalent)
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: 2 vaccines or positive titer (exempt if born before 1957)
    • Hepatitis B: positive titer, series, or declination
    • Varicella: 2 vaccines, positive titer, or history of chickenpox
    • Seasonal flu vaccine required during flu season (Oct 1 - May 31) or approved medical/religious exemption
    • COVID vaccination documentation required
  • Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 1 year; must have plan for completion within 72 hours of contract signing.
  • Required to complete facility-specific documents and acknowledgments prior to start (e.g., parking policy, confidentiality, code of conduct, orientation).
  • References: 2 references within 3 years of start.
  • Resume or employment application required.
  • Skills checklist updated annually.
  • Medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable.

Additional Notes

  • Candidate must be agreeable to floating and flexible scheduling.
  • Block scheduling may be accommodated but set schedules are not guaranteed.
  • Facility may consider straight 48-hour shifts as an alternative to alternating 36/48 hour schedule.

This position is ideal for experienced travel RNs comfortable with night shifts, floating between units, and working variable weekend schedules.

Onboarding is somewhat tedious, but they do dot every "i" and cross every T.
