Registered Nurse – PCU (Columbus, Ohio)

Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 16 weeks


Work Schedule

  • 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each
  • Day shift: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
  • Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
  • Minimum of 1 year of recent experience in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support): AHA Instructor/Provider or RQI accepted (letter of completion not accepted)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): Required for certain units; AHA Instructor/Provider or RQI accepted
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support): Required only for ER, ER OB, and ER Psych units
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program): Required for Labor & Delivery, Post-Partum, and OB units
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring): Required; facility uses 3/3/3000 expiration for AWHONN certifications
  • NIH Stroke Certification: Required for specific units; must be obtained within 1 year of start and renewed every 2 years with at least 3.0 CE hours
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement: Required annually

Background and Screening Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including SS Trace, counties lived/worked, nationwide search, sex offender registry, and MVR if driving is required
  • FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 1 year of start using code 3701.881; new fingerprinting required if break in service >90 days or results older than 1 year
  • Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending at start
  • Education accreditation verification required: graduate of an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA) at time of graduation or currently accredited program
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene)
  • Employment application and skills checklist required
  • Two professional references required; at least one from a manager or formal leadership (charge RN acceptable as second reference)

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
  • Fit mask test required annually for inpatient/patient-facing roles; must be valid for entire assignment or completed onsite during first week
  • Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12) required; exemptions not allowed for those working with infants or pregnant patients
  • Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or chest x-ray if positive; annual TB questionnaire required in lieu of annual TB test
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer required; boosters required if low titer and no proof of vaccines
  • Hepatitis B: Titer or 3-vaccine series; signed declination acceptable
  • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required unless medical exemption documented and approved
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination required during flu season (10/1 – 3/31); decliners must wear a mask at all times

Competency Requirements

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required prior to start
  • Unit-specific competency exam required
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start for all RNs except certain excluded units and remote positions; minimum passing score 76%, with remediation process for failures

Facility Policies and Documentation

  • Dress code and hand hygiene policy acknowledgment required for contracts signed 5/19/25 and beyond
  • Confidential Fraud, Waste, Abuse, and Compliance Reporting form required for all candidates
  • Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
  • Ethics and compliance policies must be reviewed and signed annually for new contracts signed 11/7/24 and beyond

Additional Notes

  • Fingerprinting results must be submitted with all pages, including dismissed charges; additional documentation required if charges unclear
  • Background check and fingerprinting processes are time-sensitive; candidates encouraged to complete fingerprinting at designated locations promptly
  • Drug screen and health documents do not require annual renewal unless there is a break in employment over 30 days
  • COVID-19 vaccination is recommended but not required

This position offers a travel contract opportunity for experienced Registered Nurses to work in a Progressive Care Unit with a structured 3x12 hour shift schedule. Compliance with extensive background checks, health screenings, and certifications is mandatory.

Onboarding is somewhat tedious, but they do dot every "i" and cross every T.
