Job Opportunity: Emergency Room Registered Nurse (RN) - Travel/Contract

Location: Chewelah, Washington
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Facility Type: Critical Access Hospital
Total Beds: 23
Charting System: Epic

Job Description

  • Position floats between units.
  • Weekend work required at minimum every other weekend.
  • On-call is not required.
  • Block schedules are not required.
  • Patient-to-nurse ratio approximately 1:5.

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation certification.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation certification.
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course).
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation certification.
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) preferred but not mandatory.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Washington.
  • Minimum 1 year of Emergency Department (ED) experience within the last year.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.

Background and Screening Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
  • Social Security Card (as applicable for I9 verification).
  • Background check within 90 days covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years; updated annually.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start; updated monthly.
  • Education verification required for nursing degree.
  • Washington State Patrol Search (WATCH/WSP) within 90 days of start, updated every 2 years for certain facility types.
  • Drug screening: 9-panel drug screen within 12 months of start.
  • References: Minimum 2 references covering 1 year of employment within the last 3 years in a comparable specialty/setting.
  • Employment application covering at least the last 5 years of employment.

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO.
  • Fit mask test (respirator clearance) required for travel nurses; must be updated annually.
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years or signed declination.
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months; updated annually.
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer; declination accepted.
  • Hepatitis B: Documentation of vaccination series or signed declination.
  • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; declination accepted.
  • Seasonal flu vaccine required during flu season (9/1–3/30) or signed declination.
  • COVID vaccination record preferred; declinations accepted.

Competency and Training Requirements

  • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam as applicable.
  • Unit-specific competency exams and skills checklists, updated annually.
  • Epic training modules required; transcripts must be submitted.
  • Annual regulatory and specialty-specific training modules via LMS (Workramp).
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) and Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) certifications as applicable.
  • IV certification as applicable.

Additional Requirements

  • Passport-style badge photo with neutral background required.
  • Float policy acknowledgment required (may float to other nearby facilities).
  • WA Multi-State Licensed Nurses Demographic Attestation required for nurses with out-of-state compact licenses.
  • Respiratory safety clearance required annually for respirator use.
  • Drug screen must be THC/marijuana free; negative results only accepted.

Summary

This is a travel contract position for an experienced Emergency Room Registered Nurse in a critical access hospital setting in Washington. The role requires night shifts, weekend availability, and flexibility to float between units. Candidates must hold current RN licensure, have at least 1 year of ER experience, and maintain required certifications including ACLS, BLS, TNCC, and PALS. Comprehensive background checks, health screenings, immunizations, and competency verifications are mandatory. First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply.
