Registered Nurse - Float Pool (Medical, Cardiology, Surgical)

Location: Longview, Washington
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Overview

  • Float Pool RN role, rotating between Medical, Cardiology, and Surgical units
  • Day shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
  • 0.9 FTE (Full-Time Equivalent)
  • Weekend coverage every other weekend required
  • Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 5 patients (day, night, and weekends)
  • Patient population: Adults
  • Medication system used: Pyxis
  • Electronic health record system: EPIC (required experience)

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Washington
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 2 years of telemetry experience, with telemetry experience within the last year
  • Previous float pool experience
  • Experience with EPIC electronic health record system
  • Certifications:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
    • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)

Compliance & Background Requirements

  • Background check required within 60 days of start (7-year search including SSN trace, counties/states lived/worked, federal and national criminal checks)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks must be run 15 days prior to start and every 45 days thereafter
  • Social Security verification required before starting (I-9 and eVerify must be on file)
  • Education verification of highest degree related to specialty required (transcripts or diploma acceptable if school closed)
  • Washington State Patrol check must be run within 90 days prior to start
  • Employment application and signed criminal disclosure statement required
  • Photo for badge (passport style with white or gray background) required

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start (not required for non-clinical candidates)
  • Fit mask test within 1 year, updated annually (N95 fit testing onsite if providing patient care)
  • Immunizations or declinations required for:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (MMR)
    • Hepatitis B (positive titer, vaccine series, or declination)
    • Varicella (immunity evidence, vaccine series, or declination)
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or approved declination during flu season (Nov 1 - Mar 31)
  • Negative TB test (IGRA or 2 PPDs) within 1 year or negative chest x-ray if positive TB history, plus annual TB questionnaire
  • Drug test required within 30 days of start (specific panels required)
  • COVID-19 vaccine exemptions require signed religious or medical exemption forms

Orientation & Training

  • Must complete a 100% score on the PeaceHealth Orientation Test for RNs prior to start (delivered via WorkRamp)
  • Review and acknowledge facility policies including:
    • Orientation Manual
    • Personnel Restrictions Due to Illness Policy
    • Masking Policy (facial hair must be clean-shaven for N95 use)
    • Workplace Violence Prevention Plan (must be signed)
    • Daily Responsibilities and MyTime Resources

Additional Notes

  • Floating between units is mandatory
  • Candidate must sign Social Security verification release
  • Various facility-specific forms and checklists must be completed and submitted prior to start
  • Computer access setup is time-sensitive and must be completed within 48 hours of receiving access emails
