Job Opportunity: Step Down Registered Nurse (Critical Care Stepdown)

Shift Details
- Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (1900-0730)
- Weekend requirement: 2 weekends per month (Friday and Saturday nights)
- No call, no floating
Unit and Patient Population
- Critical Care Stepdown Unit (Special Care Unit)
- Responsible for telemetry patients; no long-term ventilated or pressor-dependent patients (pressors may be initiated)
- Nurses oversee up to 10 telemetry monitors
- May care for general medical/surgical telemetry patients when no stepdown patients are present
- Special Care Nurses participate in the Rapid Response Team
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Michigan
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with at least 1 year within the last year
- One completed travel nursing assignment
- Telemetry experience
- Competent with BiPAP and high flow oxygen devices
- Experience with Epic electronic charting system
- ACLS certification (American Heart Association)
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Additional Requirements
- Must submit Return to Office (RTO) requests with profile; certain holiday weeks (Memorial Day and Independence Day) RTOs are not approved
- No pending licenses accepted
- Locals accepted with no radius restrictions
Systems and Tools
- EPIC charting
- Pyxis medication system
- SBAR communication framework
Orientation and Competency
- Unit-specific competency exams required (no expiration)
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam required (no expiration)
- Facility-specific modules completed onsite at orientation
Background and Documentation Requirements
- Valid driver’s license/state ID required and must be current throughout assignment
- Social Security card required
- E-Verify compliance required
- Background check within 30 days of assignment start, including:
- 7-year county and state criminal history
- Social Security Number trace
- National sex offender registry
- FACIS Level 3 search
- Education verification
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Highest level of education verification required
- Michigan Workforce fingerprinting required for this location; must be completed in Michigan
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months of start (must note latex sensitivity)
- N95 fit test within 12 months of start (annual update required)
- Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination accepted
- Negative 2-step TB test or QuantiFERON within 2 months of start; if positive, negative chest x-ray and positive result within 1 year required
- MMR immunity (2 vaccines or titers) or declination accepted
- Hepatitis B immunity or vaccination series or declination accepted
- Varicella immunity (2 vaccines or titers) or declination accepted
- Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season or declination accepted
- 10-panel drug screen with THC within 30 days of start (medical marijuana cards or dilute screens not accepted)

- Two references from previous employers required
- Current resume with 7-year work history required
