Job Opportunity: Mother-Baby / Couplet Care / Post Partum Registered Nurse

Location: Portland, Oregon
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (19:00 - 07:30)
Hours per Week: 36


Unit Description

  • Care for postpartum, antepartum, and gynecological high-risk patients.
  • Provides well newborn care as part of rooming-in service.
  • Mandated nurse-to-patient ratios:
    • 1:3 for stable normal couplets
    • 1:2 for couplets with complications (e.g., late preterm, mom on magnesium sulfate)
  • Floating opportunities possible if labor skills are present.
  • No on-call required.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Oregon
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 1 year of Maternal-Newborn experience, including experience within the last year
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Current Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) certification
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Preferred Qualifications

  • Maternal Newborn Certification.
  • Inpatient Obstetric Certification.
  • International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC).

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Valid government-issued photo ID required on first day.
  • Background check within 6 months prior to start, including education and work history verification.
  • National Sex Offender Search and other federal/state screenings required within 30 days prior to start.
  • Drug testing: Negative 10-panel including methamphetamines within 3 months prior to start; lab-based and SAMHSA certified.
  • Education verification required (primary source).
  • Two professional references from supervisors/managers within the last 24 months required.
  • Employment application must include at least 7 years of work history with city and state for each position.
  • Skills checklist required within 1 year of start.

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Fit mask (N95 or equivalent) fit testing required within 1 year prior to start; must be completed before start (onsite fit testing not available).
  • Immunizations/vaccinations or signed declinations required for:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (immune titer, 2 vaccines, or declination)
    • Hepatitis B (full vaccine series, immune titer, or declination)
    • Varicella (immune titer, 2 vaccines, or declination)
    • Seasonal Flu vaccination or signed declination (deadline 12/01/2026)
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months prior to start; TB questionnaire required regardless of TB results.

Orientation & Training

  • Completion of required online training modules prior to start, including:
    • Information Privacy and Security Essentials
    • Integrity Foundations
    • Harassment Prevention Fundamentals
    • Vocera Badge Training (for inpatient RNs)
    • Glucometer and Omnicell Nurse Patient Care Training (exceptions apply)
  • Medication override test provided during orientation (not required before start).
  • Professional appearance policy must be reviewed and signed prior to start.
  • Facility-specific policies and handbooks must be reviewed before orientation.

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must be fully available for compliance needs up until start date; any planned unavailability must be communicated in advance.
  • No prior travel experience explicitly required.
  • No on-call duties.
  • Floating possible with labor skills.

This position offers an opportunity to work in a specialized mother-baby unit caring for high-risk postpartum and antepartum patients with a focus on couplet care and newborn well-being.

Marigold is polite and professional. She goes above and beyond to ensure the contractor is well informed and has everything needed to be successful. Onboarding is somewhat tedious, but they do dot every "i" and cross every T.
