Registered Nurse - PACU (Portland, Oregon) Travel/Contract Position


Job Summary

  • Position: Registered Nurse in Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)
  • Location: Portland, Oregon
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Shifts: Variable shifts including day, evening, some night and/or call shifts
  • Shift Times: Potential start times at 05:30, 09:00, 11:00, 13:00, 15:00, and 19:00
  • Shift Pattern: Shift will remain consistent weekly, flexibility required
  • Hours: 12-hour shifts, approximately 36 hours per week

Unit Description

  • PACU is a 38-bay unit providing 24/7 perianesthesia care to adult and some pediatric patients
  • Patient types: Ambulatory, Acute Care, and Critical Care patients from home, ED, and inpatient settings
  • Responsibilities include preparing patients for surgery/procedures, post-anesthesia recovery, and patient transition to inpatient or discharge

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Oregon
  • Minimum 1 year of recent experience in Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)
  • Experience working with adult and pediatric patients
  • Experience in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Emergency Department (ED) settings
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Current certifications:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)

Compliance & Background Requirements

  • Valid government-issued photo ID required on first day
  • Background check within 6 months prior to start, including:
    • Education verification
    • Work history verification (last 7 years minimum)
    • National sex offender search
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel with methamphetamines listed, within 3 months prior to start
  • Social Security verification conducted by background vendor
  • References: Two manager or supervisor references from last 24 months required (exceptions apply)
  • Employment application must include at least 7 years of work history with city and state for each position

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Fit mask test within 1 year prior to start (specific mask types required)
  • Tdap vaccine within 10 years or signed declination
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months prior to start; TB questionnaire required
  • Immunity or vaccination (or signed declination) required for:
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (full series or declination)
    • Varicella
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination required by 12/01/2026

Orientation & Training

  • Completion of facility-specific online modules prior to start, including:
    • Information Privacy and Security Essentials
    • Integrity Foundations
    • Harassment Prevention Fundamentals
    • Glucometer 2026 (exemptions apply)
    • Omnicell Nurse Patient Care Training (exemptions apply)
    • Vocera Badge Training for inpatient RNs
  • Medication override test provided for orientation (not required before start)
  • Professional appearance policy must be reviewed and signed prior to start
  • Coronavirus protocol attestation must be reviewed and signed

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must be fully available for compliance needs up until start date; planned absences must be communicated
  • Facility requires primary source verification of state license within 60 days prior to start
  • Facility-specific policies and documents must be reviewed and signed as required
  • Fit testing for respirators preferred prior to start; onsite fit testing available if necessary with medical clearance
  • No open court cases allowed; criminal history statements required if background hits occur

Marigold is polite and professional. She goes above and beyond to ensure the contractor is well informed and has everything needed to be successful. Onboarding is somewhat tedious, but they do dot every "i" and cross every T.
