Description

Pediatric Dialysis Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Washington, District of Columbia
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Overview

  • Specialty: Pediatric Dialysis RN with Hemodialysis (HD) experience required
  • Start date: Must begin within 3-4 weeks of profile submission
  • Shifts: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (Day/Night rotation 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM)
  • Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (EOW), including 1-2 Saturday morning shifts per month for extra patient treatments
  • Patient ratio: 1:1 to 1:2
  • On-call: Yes, minimum 5 overnight on-call shifts per month, including 1-2 weekend 24-hour on-call shifts
  • Floating: Not required to float outside scope
  • Block scheduling: May be accommodated if it fits facility needs, but no guarantee
  • Locals accepted
  • Overtime billed after 48 hours for 4x12 shifts (if applicable)
  • Maximum requested time off (RTO): 7 days per 13-week contract, with 1 week max RTO allowed and must be made up if a whole week

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of recent dialysis experience (pediatric experience preferred but not required)
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • Valid RN license for District of Columbia required before start (pending license accepted at submission but must be active before start)
  • Background and license must be clean with no hits
  • First-time travel nurses accepted

Work Environment & Facility Notes

  • Pediatric hospital with Magnet status, teaching facility, and Level I Pediatric Trauma Center
  • Total staffed beds: 323 inpatient beds, including 70 NICU beds
  • Charting system: Cerner
  • Scrub color: Any, no logos, must be child-friendly

Hours & Scheduling

  • Guaranteed 36 hours per week
  • Shift pattern: 3x12 hour shifts (day or night)
  • Minimum 1-2 Saturday morning shifts per month
  • On-call shifts as described above

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
  • Background check within 30 days covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
  • Education verification and transcript/diploma (transcript accepted if education verification pending)
  • Professional license primary source verification (NURSYS verification required)
  • Physical exam within 30 days of start, including latex allergy information
  • Fit test for N95 or PAPR mask within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • Immunizations and titers required with lab values and reference ranges for:
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B (series and quantitative surface antibody titer)
    • Tdap (within 10 years)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 60 days of start (special requirements if positive or new converter)
  • 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start, including marijuana
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
  • COVID vaccine or declination required for tracking
  • Required facility-specific training modules and acknowledgements prior to start, including:
    • Orientation Safety Manual
    • Medication Study Guide
    • Pass/Fail Medication Calculation Exam (must score 84% or higher, 2 attempts allowed)
    • Competency exams including medication/pharmacology and color blindness testing
  • Professional references: 2 within past 2 years, preferably supervisors or managers (cannot be pending)
  • Employment application and skills checklist required

Additional Notes

  • Photo for badge must meet strict guidelines (full face, plain background, no hats/sunglasses, no filters) and be submitted immediately after signing contract
  • Facility will not accept candidates with any background or license issues
  • RTO (requested time off) cannot be changed after profile submission
  • Overtime billing applies only if working 4x12 shifts (not guaranteed)
