Registered Nurse (PACU) - Morgantown, West Virginia
Job Details
- Specialty: 5N/6N PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit)
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: Primarily day shifts, rotating schedule including weekends and nights as needed
- Hours: Typically 8-12 hour shifts; examples include three 12-hour shifts or four 9-hour shifts for 0.9 FTE, and four 10-hour or five 8-hour shifts for 1.0 FTE
- Call Requirements: Approximately 20-24 hours per month; employees select their own call shifts; 1-hour call response time
- Holiday Requirements: May be required to work one holiday shift and one holiday call shift per season (summer/winter)
- Floating: May float to other pre/post-operative departments within the hospital
Unit Information
- Unit Size: 20 Pre-op bays and 24 PACU/Phase II bays
- Patient Ratios:
- Pre-op: 1 nurse to 3 patients
- PACU: 1 nurse to 2 patients
- Phase II: 1 nurse to 3 patients
- Patient Population: Adult and pediatric patients undergoing general surgery, plastics, dental/ENT/maxillofacial, urology, neurosurgery, surgical oncology, ophthalmology, orthopedic/trauma, joint replacements, OB/GYN, thoracic, regional acute pain management (blocks, epidurals), and bariatrics
- Care Scope: Staff rotate through Pre-op, PACU, Phase II, and boarders; ICU patients may recover in PACU depending on bed availability
- Charge Nurse Role: Typically does not take patient assignments but may do so when necessary
- Support Staff: Nurse aides/PCAs present (5 in pre-op, 2 in PACU, 2 in Phase II)
- EMR System: EPIC
Required Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of PACU nursing experience; Level 1 trauma PACU experience preferred
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS required
- Skills:
- Experience with respiratory therapy equipment (ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP) required
- Ability to read cardiac strips (EKG monitoring)
- Licensure: Registered Nurse (RN) license appropriate for West Virginia
Orientation & Dress Code
- Orientation: Unit-specific with 1 day each in Pre-op, PACU, and Phase II
- Dress Code: Hospital scrubs
Additional Notes
- Candidates must have a driver’s license address located more than 50 miles from the facility
- Previous permanent candidates must have been gone for 2 years before reapplying
- Previous travelers must have been gone for 2 years if they stayed for 1 full year
