Registered Nurse – Med Surg Oncology (Travel/Contract)
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Contract Length: 16 weeks
Job Overview
- 12-hour rotating shifts (day/night) with schedule reviewed every 4 weeks; shift changes based on staffing needs.
- Patient population primarily includes oncology patients requiring continuous cardiac monitoring related to chemotherapy, symptom management, and comorbidity care.
- Emphasis on infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention.
- Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 4 patients.
- Required to float to units of equivalent or lower acuity.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Ohio.
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.
- Minimum 2 years of Med Surg / Telemetry experience, with at least 1 year of recent experience within the last year.
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system.
Certifications & Exams
- BLS (AHA Instructor/Provider or RQI acceptable).
- Unit-specific competency exams required, including dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam within 1 year of start (with remediation process if needed).
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required prior to start.
Licensure & Background
- Active RN license in good standing required.
- Background check: 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific code 3701.881).
- Education must be from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA).
- Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leadership.
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year confirming good health and free of contagious disease.
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year; annual TB questionnaire required.
- Immunizations/vaccinations required:
- Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
- 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers for measles, mumps, and rubella
- Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer (medical exemption requires documentation)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1–3/31)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (new travelers cannot start with pending results).
- Annual fit mask test required for inpatient/patient-facing roles starting 7/13/2026 and beyond (onsite fit testing available if needed).
Equipment & Technology Used
- B450 monitors with GE telemetry system.
- Bladder scanner, Alaris pumps, and Stryker beds.
Shift Details
- 12-hour shifts, 3 shifts per week (36 hours/week).
- Day shift: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
- Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
Additional Notes
- Parking permits available for agency staff (costs and options subject to change).
- Candidates must review and sign dress code and hand hygiene policies.
- Fraud, waste, and abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually.
- Ethics and compliance policies must be reviewed and acknowledged annually.
This position offers an opportunity to work in a specialized oncology med-surg setting with a focus on complex patient care and advanced nursing skills in a travel/contract role.
