OR Tech / Surgical Tech - Travel/Contract Position

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Specialty: Surgical Services
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Variable shifts Monday-Friday: 8, 10, or 12 hours, starting/ending anytime between 6:30 AM and 11:30 PM
  • Weekend and holiday shifts as needed
  • Call required:
    • Monday-Friday 9:00 PM - 6:30 AM
    • Saturday and Sunday 6:30 AM - 7:00 PM (or 6:30 PM - 7:00 AM)
  • 40 hours per week typical schedule (e.g., 4x10 hour day shifts)

Required Experience & Skills

  • Surgical Technologist with a minimum of 3 years of experience, including experience within the last year
  • Experience working with Level I Trauma patients
  • Neurosurgery experience
  • Complex Orthopedic/Orthopedic Spine surgery experience
  • Complex General Surgery experience, including Bariatric surgery

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA Instructor/Provider or RQI accepted)
  • National certification for Surgical Technologists not required
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be required depending on unit (check with recruiter)
  • Other certifications may be required based on unit assignment (e.g., PALS, NRP, EFM)
  • State Surgical Tech license or certification as applicable

Compliance & Background Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific code 3701.881)
  • Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending at start
  • Education accreditation verification required for Surgical Tech program graduates
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, benzodiazepines, THC, cocaine, opiates, etc.)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
  • Immunizations and health requirements:
    • Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
    • Annual TB questionnaire
    • MMR (2 vaccines or positive titers for measles, mumps, rubella)
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
    • Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
  • Fit mask testing required annually for patient-facing roles (3M 1860/1870+ or Halyard Duckbill masks accepted)

Additional Requirements

  • Call and weekend coverage required
  • 2 professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leadership
  • Employment application and skills checklist required
  • Unit-specific competency exams required prior to start
  • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required for all RN/LVN candidates (not applicable for Surgical Tech)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for RNs (not applicable for Surgical Tech)
  • Annual orientation safety manual acknowledgement
  • Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
  • Ethics and compliance policies must be reviewed and signed annually

Parking

  • Various parking permit options available (costs subject to change) with shuttle service to medical center

Notes

  • Facility does not require annual background check updates but Aya Healthcare requires annual background checks for direct candidates
  • Fingerprinting results must be obtained prior to start; new fingerprinting required if break in service exceeds 90 days or results are older than 1 year
  • Candidates without required fit mask testing valid for entire assignment will be fit tested onsite during first week
  • COVID vaccination is recommended but not required

This position is ideal for experienced Surgical Technologists with trauma and neuro surgical experience seeking a travel contract in a high-acuity surgical environment with variable shifts and call responsibilities.
