Description

Registered Nurse - Surgery

Location: Santa Fe, New Mexico
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 5 days per week, 8 hours per day


Job Summary

The Registered Nurse coordinates and implements patient care tailored to the patient population on assigned units. Ensures quality, efficient, and safe care consistent with unit standards. Demonstrates professionalism, respect, and effective communication with staff, physicians, patients, and families.


Responsibilities

  • Perform initial patient assessments and prioritize care based on age, symptoms, and psychosocial needs.
  • Systematically re-assess patients to monitor progress and identify needs for intervention.
  • Develop and implement individualized, measurable plans of care within established nursing standards.
  • Make comprehensive nursing decisions and modify care plans based on patient outcomes.
  • Participate in patient and family health education and discharge planning.
  • Implement and document timely interventions appropriate to patient needs.
  • Perform various Point of Care testing procedures.

Staff Coordination:

  • Delegate unit work assignments to ensure completion of patient care support activities.
  • Coordinate team assignments and adjust based on patient and unit needs; follow up on delegated tasks for quality.
  • Use appropriate chain of command to resolve difficult issues.
  • Participate in orientation of new staff and students.
  • Serve as a resource to visitors, physicians, and staff with prompt and courteous communication.
  • Promote a positive, professional, and supportive work environment.
  • Be receptive and responsive to new ideas.
  • Collaborate with others to achieve unit and organizational goals.

Customer Relations:

  • Exhibit behaviors that create high patient/customer satisfaction and respect patient rights and confidentiality.
  • Demonstrate effective communication and human relations skills to promote teamwork and harmony.
  • Maintain the hospital’s credibility, integrity, and positive image.
  • Support the mission, goals, and continuous improvement of the organization.

Other Duties:

  • Assist with special projects as assigned.
  • Interpret and communicate Human Resources policies and procedures accurately.
  • Adapt flexibly to changes in work environment or schedule.
  • Maintain a positive attitude during stressful periods.
  • Take responsibility for professional growth and development.
  • Adhere to all patient and environmental safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintain positive attendance and communicate absences in advance.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Mexico
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 1 year of Med Surg nursing experience within the last year
  • Operating Room (OR) experience
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association

Cons

Onboarding is somewhat tedious, but they do dot every "i" and cross every T.
