Respiratory Therapist
Job Overview
- Travel/contract role in Saint Louis, Missouri
- Night shift: 3x12 hours
- Contract length: 13 weeks
- First-time travelers accepted
- Every third weekend required
- Local candidates are not accepted
- Pending license accepted
- Up to 7 days of requested time off allowed
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Respiratory Therapist license in Missouri
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (2 years of experience)
- Registered Respiratory Therapist experience within the last year
- BLS issued by American Heart Association
- Experience with Epic
Clinical Expectations
- Work in intensive care units and general floors
- Care for patients with acute and chronic respiratory diseases
- Manage mechanically ventilated patients
- Perform ABG interpretation
- Provide precepting support to respiratory therapy students when needed
Required Skills and Procedures
- Endotracheal tube suctioning
- Extubation
- Nasal airway suctioning
- Oral airway placement
- Oropharyngeal suctioning
- Sputum specimen collection
- Tracheostomy suctioning
- Albuterol, Atrovent, Combivent, Inhaled Flolan, inhaled steroids, Lidocaine, Nitric Oxide (INo), Pulmicort, Racemic epinephrine, and Xopenex administration
- Aerosol setup via mask and trach
- Metered dose inhaler setup
- Hand-held, T-piece, trach collar, and ultrasonic nebulizer use
- High-flow nasal cannula
- BiPAP and CPAP management
- Troubleshooting high-pressure ventilator alarms
- Weaning from mechanical ventilation
Additional Notes
- Epic experience is required
- Government-issued ID is required
- Two professional references are required
- A unit-specific skills checklist is required within 1 year of start
