Occupational Therapist
Location: Waltham, Massachusetts
Setting: Skilled nursing / long-term care
Employment Type: Contract
Shift: Days
Hours per Week: 40
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Overview
The Occupational Therapist provides therapy services to help residents improve functional abilities and independence in activities of daily living.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Occupational Therapist license in Massachusetts
- Bachelor's degree
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s or Doctorate
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Prior experience in a long-term care or skilled nursing facility
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate residents and develop a therapeutic plan of care with functional goals
- Provide ADL training, including bathing, dressing, oral care, and hair care
- Assist with ambulation, mobility, positioning, transfers, and use of mechanical lifts as appropriate
- Consult with physicians and the care team regarding therapeutic and discharge needs
- Monitor treatment progress and modify the plan of care as needed
- Document evaluations and treatments in the EMR
- Recommend and help obtain assistive devices and provide education to residents or caregivers
- Supervise assistant-level staff when appropriate
- Support orientation and mentorship for new staff
- Maintain cleanliness, equipment, and infection control standards
