Registered Nurse — Stepdown/Progressive Care
Location
- Weirton, West Virginia
Contract Length
- 13 weeks
Schedule
- Day shift
- 12-hour shifts
- Every other weekend
- May be asked to participate in holiday rotation
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license
- BLS certification
- ACLS certification
- 2 years of Stepdown/PCU experience
- Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips
- Comfortable with cardiac monitoring and cardiac drips
- Ability to titrate drips
- Unexpired driver’s license must be submitted with the application
- Licensing hits must be disclosed at time of submission
Unit Details
- 30-bed unit
- Typical nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4-6 depending on acuity
- Common patient types include cardiac patients, post-pneumonia, post-cath lab, seizures, ETOH/CIWA, and pacemakers
Responsibilities
- Titrate cardiac drips
- Troubleshoot respiratory equipment as needed
- Read, print, measure, and identify telemetry rhythms
- Provide basic patient care support such as ADLs, vitals, bathing, toileting, feeding, repositioning, call light response, and blood sugar checks
Support on the Unit
- Charge nurse present each shift
- Nurse aides/patient care techs available
- Respiratory therapy available 24/7
- Monitor tech available 24/7
- Primary attending available during the day; night coverage available for the hospital
Floating
- Travelers float to any inpatient unit and are first to float
Orientation
- 2 days of general orientation
- 1 day with a preceptor
Dress Code
- Navy blue scrubs
